YES!!!!! he is completly trippy through-out the entire story....most of them anyways, and there is an over analysis of everything! for example, in the sphinx, he thinks something 1/16th of an inch is 16 ft or sum shit like that

Someone wrote a more detailed study of the course of Poe's drinking life that went a long way top explaining his health and life problems outside of the general tug of war between Poe defenders and enemies. But he didn't get his wild ideas from a bottle.

I don't know I think drugs definately contributed to the occasional oddness and brilliance of his works. In my opinon they put him in the state of mind for writing the things that he did.

Things that mess with your natural dreams and powers of reason, killing brain cells in the process, don't need more rationalizations for their temporary appeal. Please read a contemporary personal comment in Step[hen King's "?"On Writing: A memoir of the Craft".) Poe didn't write his stuff while drunk in bars. He lost his jobs and ruined his health and shamed himself in front of his family while shortening his life. He wrote well DESPITE his drinking and there is no real evidence of drug use except for one instant of a botched suicide attempt. Suicide- not for visions. His recovery inspired "To Annie" not his hallucinations.

How could it not? Not saying that I have personally ever tried this drug, I am aware and can relate through other experiances. If this drug had not been used while the writing of these master mind poems were created, they would be 100% different. Most likely a lot easier to comprahind.
