On yesterday January 29, 2005 we had the service of Celebration for the Rt. Rev. D. Ward Nichols who at 104 years young went home to be with the Lord. It was a wonderful celebration as all of the 1st District came together to remember the life of this servant of God and Senior of all Seniors in Methodism. As the Rt. Rev. Richard Allen Hildebrand preached the eulogy all in attendance were reminded of the courage, determination, and wonderful personallity of "Poppa Nick". Bishop Nichols led a long and wonderful life that is part of the rich legacy of African Methodism. As the youngest person ever elected a Bishop at 39 years of age and the connection to the years of African Methodism that many can only read about in history books. As many of the active and present Bishops and General Officers gathered (Because of snow accross the south some were unable to attend) we lift up the family of this giant who will be truly missed. Continue to pray for them and the entire A.M.E Church as we continue on in Jesus' name.

Rev. Jerome, thank you for the update on the Homecoming services of Bishop Nichols. Due to weather conditions there were many persons who desired to be there as you stated, but were unable to do so. Your acts of sharing is appreciative.
