My goat club found a place that will buy our goats for $1.50 a pound for goats under 85 lbs and $1 a pound for goats over. Well, I sent mine along with the others because the guy whom I promised the goats to never called me back. I expected to get at least $800 and only got $550. They said my six goats only weighed 480 lbs. (he gave us $1.25. gee, guilty concience)Then, then the goat club people gave me attitude because I'm trying to tell them we got ripped off and they are acting like I'm accusing them of ripping me off. I know those goats were over 100lbs each and I'm mad at myself because I would have brought them home if I had taken them but the goat club wanted to set a standard.
I also was disappointed with my vet. She said I should send a stool sample to Cornell to make sure they were okay. I asked her how much it would cost and she said it would be $15 and shipping. Then she said I had to give her 4 separate samples. You guessed it, it was $15 each. Found this out after I get a bill for $60. When I called her about it she said she told me and said something about me wanting to run a Band-Aid farm. I knew the wormer worked, all their collars no longer fit. I asked her if the test was able to tell me how to handle things in the future. No, of course not. Remember that she also said she would do an autopsy for free then charged me for it. Glenn settled me down a bit by saying that she has given me advice for free over the phone alot. But I'm still ticked off.
AND to top all this off, we had SNOW on the ground this morning and I was in a panic because I wasn't sure how I would get the goats into the truck. I had practice with them so they just jumped in. Well, that part of the driveway is dirt and downhill so I called AAA to see how long it would take for a tow, just in case and crossed my fingers. My two wheel drive truck climbed right out with that SIX HUNDRED pounds in the back.
Man, this is really bothering me. I'm gonna be up all night now and there is nothing I can do about it.

Gosh, Dee - I just saw this. I hope you did manage to get some sleep last night. People who take advantage of others are just scum, aren't they? And what the heck is a Band-Aid farm? 'Bout all you can do is remember and not have dealings with those folks in the future. I hate to raise anything for sale; just hate dealing with people, I think!!We have had heavy frosts; night temps in the mid to low 20's and windchills in the teens, but no snow yet. I'm so not looking forward to it either.

Was that computed as on the hoof or estimated dressed weight? The figure could reflect estimated dressed weight.

Sorry to hear of all your troubles, Dee.......weird to think you have snow in NJ when we've had none so far in MN! Sounds like you have a great little truck there!I remember bringing animalls into auction and being suspicious about the accuracy of the scales. I got pretty good at estimating weights too, and felt I got screwed a few times too but not much I could do about it but mutter within earshot about having the state inspect the scales and go somewhere else next time.
Course if "there is nothing you can do about it", there's not much point in staying up all night, eh? :) Hope you are successful in letting it go so it doesnt drive ya nuts.

The weight was based on live weight. The buyer had a scale. I am wondering if anyone stood next to him and watched. I am waiting for the money and a copy of the weights before I finish my thoughts on this but it seems like I got only 4 goats weighed. This is Ramadon!! They should have gotten top dollar.Hey, I'm thinking that real estate is real cheap in Florida right now. I found out that we can probably get double what it cost us to build this house for. Figuring it takes at least a year for a house to sell, we should be putting it on the market soon. Only thing, last time I was thinking that, we sold the house in a few months and had to rent an apartment until the house was built. Gary will be a senior next year.

Get a monolithic dome home in Florida . . . or be eaten by hurricanes!

Oh Joy, I would love to build a Hobbit house. I can picture it all in my head. Speaking of heads, my son would have to keep his down or he will hit it, often.
