Where Do We Go From Heregreenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
Black folk went with the Democrats in unprecedented numbers through two elections and nothing was gained. The Dems lost. At the same time, the Republicians accepted the fact that little if any black support could be gained by espousing traditional "black causes", and crafted a strategy that what is good for the nation is good for all and won. [I suspect the color of President Bush's cabinet caused many black folk to get in the booth and quietly vote for him while publicly not showing support because of the name-calling etc., from other blacks.] Black republician supporters were vilified on this board. So the black vote can be ignored by the Dems because two losses with 90% of that vote didn't help; and the GOP can ignore the black vote because they won without it. Where do we go from here.
Perhaps we need to take a lesson from the Hispanic Voters who divided up about 50/50. That is reality. If we truly look at the issues facing all Americans, I daresay that we would be 60% Conservative and 40% Liberal. Where do we go from here?

Where do we go from here? For starters, I suggest black America in general and mainstream black denominations in particular read the story about King Jehosophat & submission to Divine authority found in II Chronicles Chapter 20. I am indebted to Rev. Ann Lightner-Fuller, Pastor of Mt. Calvary AME Church of Towson, MD for sharing the first twenty verses in this chapter during her revival at my local church. The concluding verses (while not preached) of the chapter are equally edifiying. QED
