Need info. on Susi Singer Modernistic period ceramic works

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Art Deco Society of Washington : One Thread

I am trying to gather information on a vase that I belive could be a work by Austrian born artist Susi Singer. She moved to California in the 1920's and had a tour of her modern works in 1929. I would like to see some pictures of these works (not her Austrian Mother and Child type of stuff) to compare. Some of the markings on my vase include "S S", "Gwenlux". "G" (inside a circle)and "Stonecain." Does any of this mean anything to anybody? I can email a picture of the vase if need be.

Hi Harold.

One of Chicago's landmark buildings is the Time-Life building at 520 North Michigan Avenue. It's a handsome example of late 2Os rectilinear deco, with a black granite base and carved limestone panels by artist Gwen Lux. I did a Google search on her name and the very first thing that popped up was a Stonecain pitcher with an impressed SS and Gwen's name under the crackled glaze. Go check it out.

Obviously, I was drunk when I made the above post. That would, of course, be the McGraw-Hill building. As you were. M.

I have done a little research on Susi Singer the results of which can be found at www.susi-singer.co.uk for anyone interested. I would be interested in seeing a photo of your vase as, at least to my knowledge, most of her work was figurative - with the exception of a few candlebra's and candlesticks with figurative bases.
