In another thread there is a discussion about Dr. Fugh and his daughter. I want to take the time to say thank you to both of them for the very hard work that they did at general conference. Working late into the night with little sleep to document and record all the proceedings.

Other large denominations have a large staff to help at major conferences and to maintain the daily office.

Let us take time to thank our general secretary and his daughter for we are blessed to have them.

Lastly how would you feel if someone was discussing your family on a discussion board.

Dr. Fugh's daughter is a talented young woman who is highly trained and she could have gone to private sector. Yet she chose to work in our denomination.

It has not even been a month since general conference. Let's take time to say thank you to the dedicated servants that we do have in the church.

I concur with Rev. Rogers. Recording Secretaries at the local level have it hard enough, now magnify those duties to include the connectional district. Instead of finding shame, let us praise and thank them for their time, talents and efforts.

I would be content if the shareholders of the entity that I worked for discussed me as an employee.

Again I say, I don't know either personally but after reviewing her information I noted that while she is trained in a discipline by a university close to my own heart, (a Hampton U graduate!) her education was NOT in web administration or the services that she has provided to the church.

Dr. Fugh did provide her with the training that she may be qualified for the position after she received the position. That is much appreciated.

My intent was NOT to condemn Dr. Fugh or Marcia for they did and continue do to an excellent. My concern is that her position is a paid position of the AME Church. As such, it should have been opened to a larger applicant base for individuals that are educated and have experience in that discipline.

Far too many times in this church which must recognize itself not only as servants of God but also as a corporate entity that must conduct professional business as such.

Rev. Rogers, no one named Dr. Fugh and his daughter in the last post. The purpose of the discussion was about nepotism and the poster (Carolyn) used the General Secretary and his daughter as an example. We were at the General Conference, have been attending for the last several years. We are more than aware of the hard work of Dr. Fugh and the other general officers. However, that does not take away from the fact that nepotism is a debatable issue within the AME church. And it will continue to be a debatable issue, whether you feel it is "wrong" or not to do so. Rev. Rogers I agree wholeheartedly with you. Marcia and I are great friends andiit is through the church that I know her. She is trained and has the necessary training for what she is paid to do. I understand that the previous post was about nepotism as a whole but since you used a particular individual for example it appeared that you were calling that person out and I know that their waa no harm intended but that was inappropriate to give that example. All of the General Officers I know family work with them in some paid capcity one way or another. When you need something doneand your department has been budgeted a certain amount of dollars for administration you hire who you want to hire for those positions. Dr. Jerome Harris's son works with him, DR. Hill and Flowers spouses worked or work with them in the ofice. So I even have owrked for my mother in her office of her job because you can be responsible for the quality of work that is produced. So lets celebrate the richness of our gifts and jewels that we have and stop finding fault or excuses to make an invalid argument.

Dear Carolyn you made assumptions that are inaccurate concerning Ms. Marcia Fugh and her academic credentials and preparedness. Dr. Fugh has sent me the following information on the backgroud of his daughter. Ms. Fugh finished her course work at Hampton university in 2000. Below is the info Dr. Fugh sent me

"She marched in the spring of 2001 (HAMPTON HAS ONLY ONCE COMMENCEMENT PER YEAR) with a degree in Business Management. In the spring of 2000, she enrolled in classes that 'filled in the blanks' for her in information technology.

She is presently a graduate student at Tennessee State University, working toward a Master of Business degree in Public Administration, emphasis on Not For Profits."
