Pastor Mwandu,Please confirm that the 20th Episcopal District is the part of the 17th that refused to recognize a non-African Bishop as their authority.

Rev. Harper, This is a link to a web site that seems to have some information: http://www.amec3000.org/17th_District/index.html; http://www.amec3000.org/ed.htm or http://www.amec3000.org . Be Blessed Pastor Paris

I don't know if they refused to recognize a non-African, but I do know the new district includes the nations of Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi among others. The reason given at the General Conference for the creation of the new district was due to the large land mass that the district covered and the large number of churches (57 I believe was the number) and persons who had been added to the district in the last four years.

According to the report of Bishop Preston Williams about the work of the 17th District last Quadrennium, the 17th District, as we knew it prior to last Wednesday, was geographically larger than the US. Coupled with the growth that occurred in the 17th, the 20th District became a reality. This makes travel much easier on a bishop and a district.

Also the tremendous growth in the number in churches required the split. One district will have 10 annual conferences and the other will have 7. The new alignment will also worrk better from stadpoint of different languages.

I am from the 20th District, we never refused non-African Bishop, the rational of creating the 20th District was only the vastness of the the 17th District, which covered 9 indpendent states. Supervision of the district became complex hence the need to create another District. We in the 20th District we believe in the denominational motto "God Our Father, Christ Our Redeemer, Man Our Brother"
