What does "BUMP" mean and why do people post that?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread |
I notice "Bump" all the time? Why would someone keep posting that?

When you start a new thread, it doesn't automatically appear on the "recent answers" page. It doesn't appear on that page until a response to the original message is posted. Therefore, if you start a new thread, and want it to appear on the recent answers page, you can "bump" it to that page by posting a short, though meaningless, response - like the word "bump". It doesn't have to be that word however. Just posting a message consisting of a single period will have the same effect.
