Central Heat/Air "Fan On" doesn't work

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

Hi, I'm having a problem with my central heating/air. When I turn the thermostat to "Fan On" from "Auto", nothing happens. If I turn the A/C on (and adjust the t-stat to trigger it) and have it on "auto", the blower works fine, but as soon as I flip it to "Fan on", the blower kicks off, but the compressor keeps running.

Any clue as to what is keeping my blower from running continuously, and how I can fix it? It worked fine last fall.

Thank you, -Andy

Andy! The problem is the t-stat is not switchin the "fan on". You should hear a clickin sound from the furnace when turnin the fan to "on". This clickin sound is a fan relay. The t--stat wire that does the switchin is a "green" wire. If you don't hear any sound it could be the relay is bad.

Try jumperin the green wire with the red wire on the terminal strip in the furnace. [red carrys 24 volts to the t-stat and green carrys it back to the fan relay] Before doin this be sure and disconnect the red wire that runs to the t-stat or it will burn up the t-stat. If by jumperin the 24 volt wire--the blower comes on the problem is in the wire to the t-stat or the stat itself. If jumperin doesn't do it the problem could be a bad switchin relay located in the furnace. old hoot. Matt.24:44
