Where I ate lunch todaygreenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread |
I ate lunch today in a restaurant owned by the Dalai Lama's nephew. :)Not exactly earth-shaking news, but I thought it was cool. It seems kind of strange to think of a major spiritual leader like the Dalai Lama having a family.
The food was pretty good too!

Hey Sherri....Seems kind of strange to think of a major spiritual leader like the Dalai Lama having a family *member* who owns a restaurant, too, I guess! What was on the menu? Lotus flowers? Seriously, what was on the menu? Did they have prayer flags around? Sounds cool.

The restaurant is decorated with lots of prayer flags, mandalas painted on the walls, and other sorts of temple-ish things. The weird thing is that all the walls are covered in large mirrors. It's a house that's been converted into a restaurant so there are several small dining rooms rather than one large room, and the rooms are on different levels, so trying to find your way to your table was like being in the fun house at the circus. :)I had sesame shrimp with noodles for my lunch and green tea ice cream for dessert. The shrimp was great, I'm so-so on the ice cream. The menu was pretty much what we Americans think of as "Chinese food", ie lots of different types of noodle dishes and fried rice dishes. They also had several Vegan dishes.
The Dalai Lama's brother is a professor at Indiana University and there is a large Tibetan cultural center/monistary just outside of Bloomington Indiana. Whenever the DL is in the states he usually stops by for a visit.
