Who is the first American Psychologist?

Depends on your definition of a psychologist. Some would say Jonathan Edwards in the later 18th century. Most would reserve the term for a figure such as William James or George Trumbull Ladd. G. Stanley Hall opened the first research lab for psychology (though James had a demonstration lab earlier). James McKeen Cattell and Joseph Jastrow have claims to the title as well.
