Debutante - Masters Ballgreenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
Greetings Ms. Hill,My name is Francine Green and I am a member of New Tyler A.M. E. Church, Memphis, TN. I am interested in conducting a debutante ball with the participation of several A.M.E. churches in the Memphis area this year. This is a first endeavor for my church, but we feel that it is important that we introduce our youth to Christian society in this manner as well as to provide guidance and information on a variety of subjects. If this venture proves successful, we may consider implementing this program in our church.
If you would, please provide any information on getting started as well as program suggestions, activities, and any other pertinent details. Your expedient response is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Joy in Christ,
Francine Green FGreen@FDIC.gov

There is a formal program within the AME Church called the Christian Debutant Master Dedication Ceremony, founded by Julma Crawford in 1952. The Christian Debutant Master Ceremony is presented every four years at the General Conference. Though Julma Crawford is deceased, her niece Julma Edge of the Chicago Conference could possibly consult you on your local endeavors. I will email to you her address/telephone number so that you can talk to her. God bless.
