The formal race to the White House, at least for Democratic hopefuls, first begins today with the Iowa caucus. A caucus is different from a primary and folks should be savvy enough not to confuse the two. I know there are at least a dozen AME churches in the state of Iowa but when I look at the tv news reports covering the Iowa Caucus I rarely see a black Iowan interviewed about his/her expected participation in the all important Iowa Caucus. Iowa actually has a rich and fascinating black history so the conspicuous absence of the black church is puzzling to say the least. When I attended the Biennial Lay Convention last summer in New Orleans, many of us participated in the AME Voter Registration Drive Seminar. I hope this important initiative has reached our members in the Hawkeye State. QED
