greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I have for some time agonized over this forum.

It has become apparent that it is saturated with posters who have personal agendas that are counter productive to Christian values and Catholic compassionate ministries.

Many of the posters attempt to speak for the Church with little or no real knowledge (and less compassion).

Therefore, I will no longer post here.

I urge readers to first search for knowledge in their home parishes with the priests and bishops who are much more learned that those who here attempt to speak with authority.

(John G., Eugene and Paul are exceptions)

This has become a sad place indeed.

My email address will remain the same should anyone want to contact me directly.

Good luck on each of your journeys. God bless,

Answers

John,

Save the "goodbye speeches". If you want to leave than by all means, leave.

You complain when the "Trads" are posting, and you complain when they arn't. What does it take to keep Johnie happy?

And you are in law enforcement?

John, I hope you come back--I find your posts very helpful.

John

I read on another thread someone mention something to you about- "Vegetables in your nostrils". he he he :LL--------)

I hope this isn't what has you upset?

You have to have tougher skin than this, Johnnie. Have a great New Year.

Welcome to democracy John P. You have the freedom to speak, and vote (with your hands or your feet).

BTW, the veggies comment was directed not to John P, but to another John here who displays multiple personalities/identities.

God bless,

Pat Delaney

John P, thanks for the compliment. I wish that I deserved all the respect you have for me.

I understand your predicament very well. When a forum is not being managed properly, it becomes like a zoo with "chimps" (and lawyers) running loose. It's often a drag to be around.

Feel free to e-mail me at any time. I have something to offer you.

Thank God for lawyers!

Human beings, imperfect creatures that we are, desperately need lawyers in any free society. Without lawyers, on earth, freedom would be impossible outside of the smallest communities of committed Christians (and even there they are still needed to some extent but the role there is played by those with authority to judge).

Thank God also for gad-flys (who tend to make life interesting and irritating at the same time).

God bless,

I John P.

I'm sorry to read you are leaving. I hope you reconsider. I think your posts, in addition to raising good questions, often had a calming, moderating influence when threads became overly tumultuous.

WBIA... (Welcome back in advance!)

Ram: I'm sick and tired of those pigs! I'm leaving!

Noah: What do you want? I can't get rid of the pigs. But, if you must leave, there is the door. You'll find nothing, but a great flood out there and perhaps some drift wood to cling to.

Ram: Hey! but those pigs are very irritating!

Noah: Well, just hang on for awhile. If the pigs keep snorting, use your ram horns to quiet them down. We're in this together. If you think the pigs are a pain, have you met the skunks?

Ram: Ok.......never mind.

(Yeah, Mr. Delaney, society needs civil lawyers -- but society can't seem to find the kind of lawyers it needs -- honest, straight-talking, intelligent ones who aren't out to make vast sums of cash. Everyone knows that 99% of your profession seems corrupt, money-hungry, motor-mouthed, egotistical, etc.. You guys can't be trusted! It's time to have a little fun at the expense of lawyers. They sure cause everyone else enough "expense.")
-------------------

(1) A lawyer was asked if he'd like to become a Jehovah's Witness.
He declined, as he hadn't seen the accident, but replied that he would still be interested in taking the case.

(2) An attorney and your mother-in-law are trapped in a burning building.
You have time to save only one of them.
Do you have lunch or go to a movie?

(3) Q: What's the difference between a dead skunk in the road and a dead lawyer in the road?
A: Vultures will eat the skunk.

(4) Q: What's the only disadvantage to using lawyers instead of rats in laboratory experiments?
A: It's harder to extrapolate the test results to human beings.

Well tickle my ribs! Those just bust a gut.

Yes lawyers are generally disliked as they are accurately associated with social conflict. Of course, they have to be there, otherwise it would be back to the good ole days of knife-fights, duels and outright thievery.

Thank God for the law, and thank God for lawyers!

Of course there are plenty of other other irritating personality types who appear at the center of every conflict. But they have no social utility whatsoever. (They just think they do.)

Right back at ya JG!

-- Pat Delaney (pat@patdelaney.net), January 01, 2004.

I'm not sure which annoy me more -- lawyers or people who pretend to be "with it" by using the latest teen or ghetto barbarisms (e.g., "Right back at ya").

[More "lawyer one-liners" may follow later today. I've got a million of them.]

A million? Lookin foeward twit babe! ;)

Just recalling, we have a Catholic saint lawyer; Saint Thomas More. Unfortunately he worked for a lawless king. Then there was Abraham lincoln. A finer lawyer than he was a president.

Now we have Dershovich --pond scum with a law doctorate. Let's hear it for Perry Mason.

At least bad lawyers are transparent, they leave enough slime around to get a bad name. The ones that get to me are bad journalists, they are worse than the worst lawyer but have somehow managed a reputation of being objective rationalists. In arrom with a 100 lawyers and a 100 journalists, it would be easier to find a good lawyer.
