Do you have experiece of adoption or fostering?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Disabled Parents Network : One Thread

In the past disabled people have found it difficult to be taken seriously as potential adoptive parents. Is this still the case? do you have experience of adoption or fostering children??

Would you be willing to share your experiences with readers of the DPPi journal (Disabillity, Pregnancy and Parenthood International)? The 'viewpoint' section of the January 2004 issue will feature comments on this issue.

If you would like to share your views we'd be very pleased to hear from you. Either paste a reply or contact Coral Jepson at the National Centre for Disabled Parents. Freephone 0800 018 4730 (voice) or 0800 018 9949. Look forward to hearing from you.

I don't know whether you would be interested but my partner and I are in the middle of the adoption process. I have a SCI and I'm paralysed from the chest down. My partner is able bodied. We would be happy for you to follow us through the adoption process in return for any advise or knowledge that you could share with us. We have a fantastic social worker. She has asked me to gather as much info on mothers who have adopted and are in wheelchairs. This info would give us more ammo to put towards the panel at the end.
