Women in the Biblegreenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
Several months ago Linda Watkins asked a question on this BB about a controversial novel called The Da Vinci Code. I have just finished reading the Dec 8, 2003 Newsweek edition where this book and the topic of women in the Bible take center stage. The article discusses some prominent forgotten women of the Bible like Judith and Tamar and interviews prominent female theologians including an AME Itinerant Elder, Dr. Remita Weems-Espinoza of Vanderbilt Univ. School of Divinity. The development of Mary Magdelene by contemporary "womanist" theologians is particulary interesting reading for the layman. I plan to read this book over the Holidays and I trust others on this site will committ to do the same so that we can have some fruitful discussion. QED

Bill, I plan to read this book also. BTW, I have a book called "Uppity Women of Ancient Times" by Vickie Leon. This of course includes many women from the Bible. The back cover describes the book as: "200 uproarious Pirates, Pyramid Builders, Poets, Poisoners, Panderers, Power Brokers, and Princesses." I RECOMMEND THIS ALSO.
