A regular Pandora's box of a thesis! All the poems from the earlyt years on show a progress in dealing with the deceased woman idealized theme from hope to despair to defiance. "Lenore" is a rework of earlier poems itself. Presuming you can compare and contrast these works in isolation is a daunting task of subtleties you may stumble upon if lucky.

Mainly the obstinate return of Poe to an idea of hope and idealization after death contrasts to the self-defeating monolgue argument of "The Raven" where such statements are dashed by despair and the persistence yet of the need to remember and reconcile.

When reading the Raven, you get an insight on a more depressing day of his life, and towards the end you start to believe that he is insane. On the other hand, Lenore tells you that he can love, that he can be compassionate and that his life is shrouded in tragedy. But it is clear that he poors his emotions into both of these works.
