1. According to Bishop Payne, which AME Bishop was assigned "door keeper" at the first AME General Conference in 1816? He was ordered to furnish the convention daily with 12 bottles of cider, 9 lbs of cheese and a peck of crackers.

2. What pastor (later become bishop) was arrested by the Union army twice during the Civil War in Baltimore, MD to serve as a Union soldier? He was subsequently released.

3. When appointed to Israel Church in Washington, DC, how much was Rev. Payne required to post in bond "to secure his good behavior."?

Answers

As a point of clarification, in question one, the "door keeper" was not yet a bishop.

Well, I don't profess to have detailed historical knowledge about these issue but here is my best try.

Answer #1 - William Paul Quinn. I'm sure given Quinn's age he was present at the 1st General Conference.

Answwer #2 - Bishop Alexander Wayman

Answer #3 - $100.00 (Seems like a reasonable bond for a character check) QED

OK, Mary so when will you provide the correct answer to #3? I think I should be given at least a consolation prize since prior to joing an AME church in the mid-90s the only 19th century Bishops I knew where Allen, Turner, Payne and Morris Brown. In retrospect, I suppose it was a good thing during my earlier church-hopping days that I paid attention to some of Dr. Pruitt's sermons when I would visit Metropolitan AME in DC. Admittedly, there were other "reasons" for why I was a frequent guest in his church :-) QED

Actually, brother Dickens you did very well. Bishop Payne was required to post $1000 bond for good behavior in Washington, DC.
