How did philosophy and physiology affect the emergence of psychology as a science?

In many different ways... to many to mention here. Have a look at a history of psychology textbook. Then you might read John O'Donnell's _Origins of Behaviorism_ in which the relationship with physiologists is spelled out in some detail. Then you might look at a book I recently co-edited: _The Transforamtion of Psychology_ (APA, 2001). It has chapter on various attempts that were made in the 19th century to transform psychology from a branch of philosophy into a branch of science.
