AME SCAM

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

I was recently called by the crimes division of our local police department about a scam being run on AME churches. Someone would call, usually after service on Sunday, saying that they are the pastor of a Miss Ming, Neice of the late Bishop Ming, who is relocating to your town and ask that the pastor look out for her. Later tha week, the "Miss Ming" calls and says that she is stranded in a town 100-150 miles away and needs help in paying the repair bill because no one will cash he out of town check.

Has anyone heard of this happening?

This is a standard scam that surfaces periodically in all denominations. There are many variations but it is easily detected to be a scam. I will ask for a number and location so that we may return your call after the Official Board meets and most of the time you won't hear from them again. They hit and run

Please, start using your spell check. Moderator's note: I don't know about your browser, but mine does not do spell checking...

This is a very late response but I finally had a minute to do so: We are sadden that Mother Ming's memory would be tarnished and mocked by such a cruel act of deception. However in these times we are not surprised at the desperate act of some to demonstrate such a lack of respect to her family and most of all her dedication and work to our Zion. Prayerfully, The Family and blood niece of the late Mrs. Edith White Ming
