If you haven't heard by now, the RIAA has created a hit list for Kazaa. This means that if your name is on the list, you're screwed and get a lawyer ready. Some believe that this is a bluff to make us stop using P2P networks but no one is sure. Check to see if you name is on the list. I'll cross my fingers for you all.Monkey

It's still perfectly legal to download unlicensed anime in America, such as Inuyasha episodes 53 and up.
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
Thx for the info. Im putting my trust in kazaa lite ip blocker
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
This is for the licesened anime downloaders and music downloaders. Just be careful. The RIAA is a sneaky bunch
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
Is there really any need to worry though?... besides those ppl who are on the hit list... that is one really small list considering the amount of users who use Kazaa everyday...and aren't there already ways to prevent urself from getting caught? Please share if you know.
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
seem like their only targeting music downloaders...thank god i only use it for anime...
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
Actually downloading anything that has been copyrighted is illegal. With unlicensed anime (in USA) is the same - it's illegal, fansubbing is illegal. Doesn't matter how you look at it, the fact remains it's illegal.Now... appart that fact... it is however tolerated to some extent since you're not doing any damage to american licensing indusry by downloading something they didn't pay for. You're only doing damage to the authors that made the anime.
Personaly I find that injust and doublefaced. American industry is saying: "It's ok to steal from others, but if you try to steal from us we're gonna kick your balls and eat your heart." A very onesided strategy don't you think?

Fuck the damn RIAA. They rip artists and people off so bad, it's fucked up. Let them lose money and go down. They can't stop P2P. Mothafuckers. I don't use Kazaa I use bearshare, which is just as good for music, and some anime. When Bearshare is targeted next, I'll have already switched to another just-as-great P2P. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
they are only worried about music......
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
man....how am i suppose to get my music.......i mean its not like im gunna fly over to japan to buy cds.........hm i thought fansubbing was only illegal if its licensed cause i mean its just like watching it on tv over in japan...except its over here..and we have to dl it.
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
heh sarah... lemme give you an example. I live in europe. So let's just say I live in... Germany and I download say... Buffy eps that were not "licensed" in Germany. I can assure you I'm doing illegal things... as far as whoever produced Buffy is concerned.
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
Isn't it o.k. to download licensed stuff if you own the cd/dvd?
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
Oh yeah. I've also noticed that some user names are duplicates. For instance defaultuser@kazaa. How do they tell which user name is who?
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
they can trace your IP address. I just dont share anyways... so dont share. They are only targeting people who share
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
ROFL!!! So like... what are you gonna download if everyone stops sharing wiseguy?
-- Anonymous, July 26, 2003
All right. Let me clear this up. It is ILLEAGAL to invade the privacy of an American without a warrent. You cannot get awarrent without justification. Now tell me what reason would they have to get such a warrent? Aside from the fact that they would need MILLIONS of warrents one for every person using it, they'd first have to find out who is using it. for that they need a warrent.Or should they say in court "well, he has a computer so he's probably doing something illeagal" the judge would laugh in Their faces. They need a reason or it's a vialation of privacy. Granted on certain occasions they haven't cared but to violate on a scale of such would draw too much attention. That story you heard IS a bluff, because that is the only defense they have.

Reason: stealing intelectual property. And the can very easily find out who's using it (IP's).
Next... they hit the ones that share a lot and work their way down.
Do they have the right to do this? YES
Is it correct for them to do this? From their point of view YES. They are afterall loosing their money.
Do I agree with them? Partially. They have the right to do this... but moraly I don't agree since the average author only gets 8% of the CD price you pay in the store. So let's do some math... Average cd costs 15$ in the store. From that we deduct the manufacturing costs (about 40 cents per CD with 1000CDs) so we got $14.6 gross income. the artist gets $1.2... so to the publisher goes around $13.4...
It's not fair, but sadly, it's how it works.
Either way you look at it, the ones who loose most are the artists... And THAT is what counts most.

heh, the RIAA is a gang now with a hitlist. Glad I'm not on there, but I don't download enough American music.
-- Anonymous, July 27, 2003
True but they Need to know what you've stolen before they can charge you so, they still need a warrent to search you because they need to fine you under the law, now, they can't get a search warrent on every single bitch using P2P's. that would be crazy, and I hope the government has better things to do then hunt down Millions of people in a process that takes a mounth per person one at a time to find.
-- Anonymous, July 27, 2003
It's gonna cost hella money to prosecute everyone who uses P2P. Either way the RIAA will lose a fucking shitload of money. Fuck the RIAA. Sons of bitches fat fucks.
-- Anonymous, July 27, 2003
I just hope they dont do something stupid and release some kind of virus... And if downloading Anime is OK if you have a licensed copy already, how come distributing is illegal no matter what?
-- Anonymous, July 27, 2003
If people dont have the money to buy the music in the first place, what are they expecting they'll get if they send them to court? Lol
-- Anonymous, July 27, 2003
ok i live in the United Arab Emirates- for those who dont know thats in the middle east-....does that RIAA thingy hit only in the US and Europe or even in a place so far away?
-- Anonymous, July 29, 2003
I think its only the US so far, not sure though.

It doesn't matter. The next generation P2P programs, will provide such anonymity that not even ISP's will be able to crack. So fuck the RIAA and I just can't wait for those next generation file sharing programs. I just hope this will help cripple the fucking RIAA. Damn those fat fucking middle men.
-- Anonymous, August 03, 2003
If any of you use a mac than you should try this progam called drumbeat i think their coming ot with a version for pc soon. drumbeat is a fifteen day trial for free but if you have filebuddy you can reset the file that tracks how many days its been on. get file buddy at http://www.skytag.com/filebuddy/7/ download.html , and get drumbeat at drumbeat.com then when needed you open file buddy then search for and delete the file called mtd.stamp then your days reset! LoL Haha Haha

umm... hey. my question is: anyone know if the RIAA is going after Mac users? as far as i can tell, they really are focusing on the... 95.6% of the industry represented by Windows. anyways, i guess what i really want is a Mac anonymity program... not that i download of course. *cough* *cough*...
