Recently it was on the news that people using kazaa might be in danger of having to pay large fines.. Apparently they will be scaning ip adresses and its dangerous to use it from now on.. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for anoterh file sharing program that i could use in kazaa's place.. NO WINMX.. thanx for your thoughts

Well, they'd sure get a lot of $$... *sighs* I also read [on www.cnn.com and www.drudgereport.com] that they are trying to pass a bill to give users (using Kazaa or other p2p apps) 2 warnings that they are doing something illegal, and then it will somehow destroy their computer. *sighs again* I thought that was only for music, though, since the Music Industry has their panties twisted in knots about losing money due to p2p sharing [which I personally do not think is completely responsible for it].

http://www.earthstation5.com/download.htmlES5 Stealth Technology Components:
• One-Click Proxy Server - ES5 provides users with the instant ability to transmit and download via a "proxy server." Not to be confused with a corporate firewall/proxy/socks proxy, ES5 allows users to send connection requests through intermediary proxy servers located throughout the world so that the download destination of a file cannot be traced by any entity whatsoever.
• SSL - Secure Sockets ö Ensures that the agents of the Evil Empire cannot monitor a userâs uploading or downloading activity. When a user downloads a file, ES5 will provide the user the option to automatically deploy SSL by right clicking. The only negative side effect is that SSL causes the download to be slower due to processing overhead.
• UDP - User Datagram Protocol - It is not possible to reliably scan UDP so Big Brother cannot examine a userâs computer to determine if ES5 is running, unless they themselves are connecting to the ES5 network. However, it is not possible to batch scan computers at random to establish if ES5 is in operation on a userâs computer.
• ES5 Security Key - ES5 utilizes a standard HTTP server to transmit files, but deploys a special "security key" so than only ES5 users can access your shared files.
• IP Addresses - ES5 does not display user IP Address information on downloading or uploading.

That Sucks........Is Kazza The Same Thing As Kazza Lite.....
-- Anonymous, June 29, 2003
What Does That mean ....(questions for the guy above me)
-- Anonymous, June 29, 2003
yeah. i also confused. can simplify into layman terms??
-- Anonymous, June 29, 2003
Is that possible? How can u track users of kazaas? I mean we don't give any personal information such as addresses, phone no. or even email addresses. Please someone explain in "everyday" term. Is kazaa and kazaa lite the same?
-- Anonymous, June 29, 2003
dude its so easy to get tracked on kazaa. All they need is your isp adress and your screwed. you gave all your information to the isp (internet service provider). The goverment can easily get the information from them. All fun and games untill someone gets sued

emule is a good sharing program, well atleast for me, i have found alot of anime, but i have to say this whole kazaa situation sucks, i really depend on kazaa lite T_T;;
-- Anonymous, June 30, 2003
Kazaa is about the worst piece of program i have ever seen in my life, its buggy, leaves your computer vulnerable, the download protocol sucks, i'd go kdx, ftp, or irc, if you really want good anime in high qual.http://www.nowherenow.org/

They will probably to sue you after at least 2 warning. They will begin to sue people who have "a lot' of MP3 and sharing "a lot too". Casual Kazaa users shold be fine. Even if they sue you, just burn every MP3 you have on CDs than pretend that you have been hacked. Or better, just exchange your computer with your friend's for a couple month and pretend that you know nothing. HAHAHA

NOOOOOOOOOOOi heard it to but you should read more abeout this i saw in a pc magazin the same but they said they cant do this cause kazaa is a p2p programm but what we share is not the problem of kazaa :P

I dont know why all of u are so worried about Kazaa, Kazaa SUCKS. all they have is low quality anime and its impossible to download from people. if you want better quality (if you hav fast connection also advisable) you should use direct connect, dc++, or the best of all Bit torrent.

http://xs.tech.nu/this has fan made software with no spyware and can stop others tracking u via the software itself - basically u can do ur normal stuff and stay safe!

Stupid people that do those things fricken have their tits in a tangle over it geez

Kazaa just made file sharing easier, it wasn't the first and won't be the last. People have been boot-legging music on via the internet for almost a decade through ftp, its just that now the every day user can do the same thing with a simple to use program. Once Kazaa goes down, another will come up. Hell Mirc has every file you could possible want if you know how to search it. I guess what I am saying is FUCK THE BUREAUCRACY AND LET ME DOWNLOAD MY FUCKING MUSIC IN PEACE

Actually it turns out (as I heard this same rumor) that Kazaa will not be issuing fines. But I have to agree with some other answers, Kazaa is not that great and does totally leave your computer vulnerable and open. The amount of spyware that is on Kazaa is ridiculous.

i dont tink they will get kazaa not if u av over 2 firewalls itll take em over 15mins 2 trace ur i.p den and if u av pc-cillin as 1 of ur firewalls it tells u wen sum1 is tracin u

I THINK ITS SAD WHEN YOUR FREEDOM THEY CLAIM WE ALL HAVE GETS TAKEN AWAY BECAUSE OF USERS DOING ILLEGAL ACTIVITY.IF ITS ILLEGAL THEN WHY CAN WE DO IT?SHOULDNT THEY NOT ALLOW IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?KAZZA HAS BEEN AROUND FOR ALONG TIME,AND NOW ITS ILLEGAL.WHY ISNT PORN SITES ILLEGAL THEN?

Ahh doen't it all come down to one simple fact. The rich want to stay rich. The software industry, the music industry, they all have there time. Look at where they began. Not everything can stay on top forever. Eventually the market for such things becomes dilluted or drys up. If your software/music is too expensive no one will buy it. Then if those same people find that thay can get it for free they will. The markets just arn't booming anymore and the price of music and sofware hasn't gone down. Music and software won't disapear completely it just won't be as exspensive in years to come and those companies who don't lower there pricing to compensate will go under. This battle was fought several years ago with the software industry. That is when the FSF came around. Now for just about every comercial program written there is also a free counter part written with either equal or greater quality. There are free PDF readers and writers, Image manipulation programs, games, Office suits, etc. It's just a matter of time:)
