ok, this has to be the stupidest statement I've seen ever, though I'm noticing something on this thread, everyone is catorgerizing things according to how they've appeared in american TV. The late night Cartoon Network shows, the Saturday morning cartoons... The American's have destroyed so many animes by turning them into Saturday morning cartoons... its unfair to judge those ones on the same level as the uncut, 'made for adults' late night stuff as compared to the butchered, 'lets make this happy and fluffy' Saturday morning cartoons. I like all the animes that have been mentioned in this entire thing, though I have yet to find a point to this at all. Just some jerk trying to piss people off by saying one thing is better than another, unless they have an argueable point people should keep their opinions to themselves... although I'm a total hypocrite for sitting here stating my opinion for this extended period of time, so I'll shut up now

I think the original Dragonball series, in it's subbed form/uncut form, is really very funny. Funimation really cuts out a lot of funny things because it wouldn't be considered a children's show in America if they didn't. I'll give you some examples of funny things cut out below. ^_^

Bulma, Goku, and Oolong are in a boat and Oolong turns into a fish in order to get away from them.

Original: Goku uses a pair of Bulma's panties to lure him back.

Funimation: Bulma's panties are now magically money, and Goku uses that to lure Oolong back.

Bulma notices that Master Roshi has a dragonball around his neck, and she asks him for it.

Original: Master Roshi asks Bulma to show him her panties in exchange for the dragonball. She shows them to him unaware that she doesn't actually have any panties on (realizes this much later).

Funimation: Master Roshi asks to see Bulma's belly button. She shows him, he looks a little nervous, and gives her the dragonball.

Finally, the one that really disappointed me. Yamcha is fighting with the invisable man at Baba's. In order for Yamcha to see the invisable man, Krillin tells Goku to go get Master Roshi and Bulma.

Original: Krillin carefully positions Master Roshi and Bulma. Then Krillin goes behind Bulma and pulls up her shirt. Master Roshi immediately gets a nose bleed from this, and due to Krillin's careful postioning of Master Roshi the invisable man is covered in the blood fromt he nose bleed.

Funimation: Goku gets Master Roshi and Bulma who bring a can of tomato soup. They use the tomato soup to cover the invisable man.

Before talking shit about anime, you should first read the manga, especially in Yu-Gi-Oh!. Even both series of Yuugiou (Yu-Gi-Oh! & Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters) are VERY different from the manga, and the american version is EVEN MORE different. The manga isn't ALL about cards. It's just that the card game was more practical and stable to make an anime about it. Yu-gi-oh mixes a lot of themes in a really great way. The plot is dark and it's hilarious at moments. What I dislike the most is people in this thread saying that a real anime is something like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. And while I enjoy these two, that is definitely NOT a real anime. It just says much about how the american culture is ignorant. People only think of anime as something bloody and violent, it's a very crappy stereotype. An great anime is that which doesn't need that (not that I'm against violence or anything), and can mix various themes and still be darker than american cartoons. The only way to say an anime sucks is if it's badly done: bad quality, terrible plot (not necessarily without plot ^_~), bad character development, makes no sense, or it keeps repeating the same shit all over again *coughcoughdbzcoughcough*. hehe

JUST GIVE EVERY ANIME A SECOND CHANCE. Not every anime has to be R or PG-13. A good anime isn't made with that purpose, it just that it's a nice touch for the story.

I forgot to add something. Do you know why the card game is so popular in Japan? Because the young japanese study most of the time (because of the competition there is) and don't socialize much. It seems that the card game is very favorable for enjoyment and this is why japanese boys (and girls) seem to like it. It's like an excuse to socialize and have a good time.
