rm > avi w/ tinra, why doesn't video sync with audio?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have been able to get tinra to convert rm files into avi. the sound and the video work, but they're not in sync, i.e. the video is going much slower than in the original rm because by the end its about 20 seconds off from the sound. Does anyone know how to fix this?

RM is crap because it does all kinds of nasty things like drop frames if necessary. There is really nothing you can do about the problem. I would guess that RM may have dropped some video frames and this is causing your sound problems. 20 seconds is off too far to fix. Sorry. Sync problems greater than 1 second can be very difficult to fix and 20 seconds is just impossible. The only option I can think of is that you can make severe cuts in the audio using an audio editor to get it back in sync :-(

This has been happenning to me too, but it is only about 1-2 seconds off. Probably not even that, but I have no idea how to fix this problem. It's just the same if I convert the avi to mpeg.

Ya! This problem has happened to me also, and the best thing I can say to do is to syncronize the frame rate. Using Tinra and Stable is good and all, but use VirtuaDub, not only can you adjust the frame rate, but you can also delay the sound! It also supports video codecs. Hope this works for ya!!
