OVAs and OAVs stand for Original Video Animation or Original Animation Video. OVAs are just like series that are broadcasted on TV, except they are released on video. Movies are one part, but OVAs can be released regulaly, like on television.

Also the name OAV in Japan stands for Original Adult Video, so they differ the two video types by changing the letter order on the title.
