I have a paper over that also and the only thing I have found out is he married his first cousin and his died left the family when he was an infant.know that won't help much but oh well.

well his father died/dissapeared when poe was a very young child, then his mother died and he was taken in by the allan family (hence Edgar ALLAN Poe) he didnt get on with his new father and they rowed alot. he married his cousin but had no children. his wife died and this affected him deeply. if you buy an edgar allan book then look to see if they have an introduction or a notes section, this will tell you what influenced the storys and will also summarise his life. i hope i have been help a to you.

First to understand poe's style of writing you have to understand his early understanding of death. When he was a very young boy (being raised by his birth mother who was an actress, which was not an upperclass or highly approved job like it is today)he would sit in the very front row and watch his mother play the role of juliet in Shakespear's Romeo and juliet. She played the role 6 or 7 nights a week and in front of her very young son. and every performance she would die in front of him as well, because we all know that in the play juliet and romeo both die in the play. well after the play was over one of the stage crew would bring him back into his mothers dressing room to see his mother alive and well after she had just killed herself on stage in front of him. This obviously distorted his ideas of death. what is also ironic about his perceptions about death is that every important woman in is life his 3 or 4 mothers and wife. all died of the same thing. they all died of tuberculosis. His wife which was also his cousin, died horribly of this sickness. they were in such a state of poverty that he couldnt even afford a blanket or even rags to cover her up with through the final stages of her sickness, which if you dont know the final parts of tuberculosis is shivering and coldness up until the point that you die. he could bring no comfort to his wife the only actual warmth he could give her was from their pet cat. they had a long haired cat at the time that he would lay across her body to offer at least some sort of comfort. He lived a life of poverty riddled with death and misfortune. Most of his writings were not appreciated at all while he was alive. the raven for example was published in a newspaper in an attempt to make a little money fast but it was not copyrighted first so everyone who wanted it took it and called it there own leaving poe pennyless and creditless for his work.I hope this helped you in some way. if you want email me and i could send u some more stuff about him. i did a couple of papers on him a while ago and he is by far my favorite author. My knowledge about him is pretty vast.

Edgar Allen Poe was born in 1809 and his father David abandoned the family at age one. his mother Eliza died of tuberculosis (TB) at age 24 when EAP was 3. edgar was raised and adopted by Frances and John Allen, and EAP took their last name as apart of his own. At age 15, his friend Jane Steinert died of brain cancer. Frances Allen died of TB and John Allen disowned him. In 1831, Edgar moved in with his Aunt Maria and her daughter, Virginia Clemm, his future wife. they married when he was 26, and she was 12. in the 1830s, EAP's brother Henry died of TB. EAP created the detective srories to help himself achieve order and logic in his life. in 1842, Virginia contracted TB and he wrote THE RAVEN, which made him famous but only earned him $14. Virginia died and Poe wrote ANNABEL LEE, the characters in RAVEN and ANNABEL LEE are for everyone to relate to not just a spouse. EAP disappeared from Virginia in sept 1849 and was found in a gutter wearing someone else's soiled clothing. he died OCT 7 1849 and his last words were, "GOD HELP MY POOR SOUL."

you all should have some respect for the greatest poet alive. half of you ppl prolly didn't even read his work. or maybe because yer not smart enough to understand it. open your eyes and look at something that will feed yer brain with something interesting and something to think about and quit talking about how boring edgar allen poe is... and get a life yourself besides sitting on the computer being immature.
