Answers

Alcoholic. Only took opium based drugs on rare occasions, probably only medicinally except for a strange suicide attempt which inspired his poem "For Annie".

Poe's death remains a mystery. Stress and alcoholic poisoning, rabies whatever, he went missing for a few days and the condition he showed up in suggests he may have been "cooped" up in a vote fraud press gang, plied with drink and abandonned. I am not at all convinced by the rabies expalantion which certainly is not needed considering the harsh experience of cooping immediately preceded his collapse.

Being that Alcohol is a drug Edgar it seems had problems along these lines. He probably was suffering from a disease which ends are always the same DEATH.Addiction effected life in away which leads me to believe that he was an addict and alcohol was his drug of choice.

OMG!! You're on this site yet you don't even know if edgar allan poe was a writer?! And what's up with the smartass remark about being addicted to porn?! I think it's very disrespectful. E.A. Whats up, I just wanted to say that although the topic of masturbation is funny, it does not really belong on this site. Poe was deep, guess thats all I can say because I never met the guy. From reading his poetry and short stories his life was a nightmare, and using drugs was probably his only way to wake out of it. Or maybe it just caused a more pleasurable dream.
