Yeh, the ann-I-mated precursor to Mr. Wachowski's MATROX is hitting Hollywoodland first and foremost, like dey were the center of the fukkin WORLD or somethin. Huh. Figures I would be blessed to see dis advant-guard screening, as as the I-N-U (doya dig?) I can project the info vicarious-like thru messageboardship. Sooooo, outta mixed sense of duty and perverse attention-deficit, I is making wit the links. DA YOU-FOS LAND ON THE FOURTEENTH. Master(Bates) Plan: to drag a few innocent bystanders wit' me into dis sordid wunnerfull mess. If NOT, I's at least ESCAPE from dis CONCRETE CAVE an' use the wunners of public transport. Yes fulks, I BE THERE. If'n Peter C be there, it ain't no thang. If'n Skye be there, ain't no problem widdat too. Gotta be quick tho, I got NO CLUE how fukkin BIG dis is gonna blow up. Lov an light.

I'm definitely gonna be there, starting from the hentai night (may 10th). My roommate is going to cosplay each night, it looks like, but I don't think I'm going to do anything other than perhaps be Juliano or the Inquisitor from Witch Hunter Robin.

This is going to kick a lot of ass, I think.

Every night for five nights??? That's HARDCORE.

The cosplaying I mean.

Good... for a second I thought you knew about our other activities...

^_~

But Demon Sex Queen is one of the funniest things I've ever seen... I just hope the Japanese is as appropriately corny as the english, lest Ashley start quoting the lines from the dub.

You staying for the late late shows? Koihime sounds hi-freakin- larious, but the other one... I don't know, man...

Paul, thanks for getting the word out about the Animatrix screening at the Egyptian. This will be one of the very few times it will shown projected on film in the U.S.. All the episodes look great on the big screen. And the Egyptian does great projection.

So I'm really sorry that I'm going to have to miss the evening-- I'm out of town that week. Warners is showing both Animatrix and Reloaded at Cannes. Well, I'll at least get to see how the French react to the thing.

Paul, Skye, and whoever else -- I'd love to know what you think. (But let's keep it spoiler-free on the board at least until June 3, when the DVD comes out-- you can always email me with your specific comments/questions.)

Still recovering from a whirlwind 3 nights of anime: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, plus dancing/shmoozing at a Hollywood trance party and afterparty. Comments on the Animatrix will follow, after an email to Peter Chung on the 14th (as per his request).

Here's the rundown:

Tamala2010: Fun, fun, fun... for the first 30 minutes. After that it tried my patience. File under "interesting failure". 6/10

Aura Battler Dunbine: Recently exhumed 80's animation. Could've stayed buried IMO. 3/10

RahXephon/Noir: Another mecha show, another little-girl-killer show. Nothing special. 6?/10

Read Or Die: Incredibly hyper superhero/spy spoof. Think "The Tick" on codeine. 7/10

Palme No Ki: SEE THIS FILM. 10/10

Princess Arete: Deliberate, old fashioned fantasy fable that's not at all predictable. Wondrous special effects; shades of oldschool Disney. Not for everyone, but I loved it. 9/10

Memories: Surprisingly, I liked this a lot. Each segment wasn't spectacular on its own, but together they made a great little anthology film in the vein of Heavy Metal. GOOD music, too. 7/10

Sakura Wars: Um... huh? Just ideas slapped together without any passion or purpose. 4/10

Kaidohmaru: The projection was way too bright, and as a result what seemed like a fairly boring samurai drama was made nearly unwatchable. Bright!/10

Hentai night: It's hentai. Nuff said. I stand by my description of Koihime as "Tenchi Does Dallas". H/10

Skye and Ashley... I'm always a bit nervous meeting new people, but you guys were AWESOME. Come on down to LA anytime =)

I typed up a response to this but IE crashed. Now on Mozilla. Damnit.

Hanging with Paul was fun. He's the kinda guy you're glad to have in a film class, because he takes having fun seriously. If Ashley hadn't been freezing I'd have stuck around chatting all night. Excellent musician, too.

Oops, right, the anime.

MEMORIES I saw a couple years ago and I can't comprehend why it wasn't brought over sooner... The captions on the Japanese tape are in english! It's been translated for TWO YEARS. Anyways, I really dug the music myself, and it seems like a sampler plate of Katsuhiro Otomo's talent. I wanted to see it on the big screen, but we left too late. Ashley couldn't keep her ... um... pieces in her costume.

Hentai night: there were a surprising number of gay couples in the audience, considering the amount of lesbian and het action in "Tenchi Does Dallas." I also think most of the jokes of Sex Demon Queen, a self described spoof of hentai, missed the audience. Ah well. Left after the first two shows, because you can only watch so much hentai.

Sakura Wars. What cool art! What a ... rushed story? This played out like a clip show in a series of clip shows, so only the vaguest idea of the series was given to me. The animation was kind of a mixed bag, too, but I assume that Production IG did it: it reminded me a lot of GitS: Stand Alone Complex.

RahXephon. This series really should be shown, and watched, from the start. The first 3 episodes are spectacular and surprising. As well, as a Japanese friend of mine commented "It's the only anime I've seen without a bad guy." The cast is somewhat large. At the same time, there are a lot of foils, and much of the series is about love and regret. The ending is fantastically bittersweet, and involves two confrontations that are unexpected but logical. Finally, the music rocks, and the series focuses a lot on music and sound expressing emotion, affecting the world, communicating ideas.

Yeah, it's hard to come in on a series in the middle. I'll give RahXephon another chance.

-- Inu (paul@nadisrec.com), May 23, 2003.

hey about sex demon queen... is there only one ep? its my favorite hentai but i cant find anything beyond the first ep when in the begining its obvious that there is room for more eps please email me

-- goddammf (darktwist@hotmail.com), July 20, 2003.

Sex Demon Queen only has one ep, as far as I can tell. I imagine it was more popular in the US than in Japan, and the rest of its eps were never finished.
