Post Revolution, Pre-Civil War period of westward expansion and growth. You need to check history material in Poe's timeline.

Poe was born in 1809 and died in 1849, so I would suggest you check out that 40 year period for any information that you might need.

You don't need that second "in." It's redundant, and, in my opinion, poorly structured. A better sentence would be, "What was the time period in which Poe lived like?" Still, it would be fine if you just took out that second "in."
