Does anyone know if there is a way to make VCD's that will play on a DVD player, without using a DVD burner, and without buying anything?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Animes : One Thread |
No seriously, my parents are getting mad at the excessive amount of Media (Movies, Videos, Anime, etc...) on my computer, so I'm looking for free a way to put them on CD's to watch on my DVD player, which does play VCD's (and SVCD's too, i think). I have plenty of tutorials that tell how to format and author a DVD before burning, but all call for a DVD writer, but I've also seen software that lets you copy a DVD onto a CD through a CD Burner/Writer. So I figure there must be some way!!! Please help me!P.S. Don't e-mail me please, i think this account has been cancelled.

Why don't you burn all your stuff onto a cd and just watch it on your computer? Then it wouldn't be stored on your computers hard drive so you wouldn't need to put them on dvds.

Tried that, But I still would have to deal with codecs and so forth to watch them on other computers, thats the main problem... Like, I tried to do just that, and then put them on my computer in my room, but I dont have all the right codecs on there. WMP V.9 is needed in order to d/l the codecs but i can't get it because it doesn't work for the Windows version in my room(no internet in there anyhow) Believe me, I've tried all the CD stuff, but I would much rather a VCD or an SVCD...P.S. It's my parents computer, too. I wouldn't have to have to go through all this stuff (although I probably would still want to) if I had the internet in my room. Thanks Anyway...

Okay, technically you can do it for free if you have a CD burner and a program that will allow you to make VCDs on your computer, but if you don't have one you'll have to buy one to make VCDs. If you have a program that will allow you to burn music CDs, see if it'll let you make video CDs (which are VCDs) too. I use Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum (it has to be the platinum version to make VCDs). The only thing is most of these programs will only make VCDs from MPEG files. Therefore you have to download a free program that will turn your AVIs into MPEGs.As far as tutorials go, there are plenty of them at http://www.vcdhelp.com. The only thing is the people who write the tutorials don't really simplify it enough for a beginner to really understand. The only way I learned was by teaching myself. I can send you my tutorial, which is very easy to follow, if you want. It's a little bit too long to post here. ^_^

what cd burning program are you using right now? just wondering whether or not i can be of any help

I use nero as it supports overburning - mpeg can be simply converted by your cd burned, otherwise use a proggie called TMPGENC (It is free and very good)for other formats like avi and re-encode to mpeg. vcdhelp.com has many tuts on doing and answers all your questions - a very informative site that any idiot can understand

Well, right now, I am using Windows Media Player (and plain old Windows explorer CD Drive drag-and-drop for files) to burn CD's, but I think we have Nero too. Also, is there a way to get a program for free to make VCD's? (Like would it be on file-sharing programs, or would there be alternative programs as freeware, or even demos with full features with like a 30 day limit only?)

I don't know of any programs that will make VCDs that are free. As far as trial versions go, you can probably find them but they require a credit card. Also you've got remember to cancel them or you will pay for them. I bought a used version of Roxio 5 Platinum, off of ebay for $25. The new version 6 that can make VCDs costs about $70. I don't know much about Nero, but I know that it's not free either.I posted my tutorial at my websit if you want to take a look.

I take it back. I just did a little research for you and I found a couple of programs that will burn VCDs that are absolutely free. I posted them up with my tutorial on my website.

I Did it! Gundam Wing episodes 1 and 2 on my very first VCD, absolutely free. The only thing I had to buy was the computer and the monthly internet connection! I ended up using Nero Burning Rom, which I later found out I had, and that was even simpler than VCD Easy. I'm gonna go watch it now! Thanks!

Okay, I have now burned episodes 1-12 of the Gundam Wing series onto 6 disks. I even made some cool cases with cheepo depot CD-R cases, And then I edited a picture and put it in the front. The overall effect is pretty awesome, if I do say so myself..... Anyway, I wanted to thank you all again, my dream is now a reality.P.S. (Now I can finally put those Downloaded movies onto VCD's to watch in my DVD player)

Take your pick, http://versiontracker.com/mp/new_search.m?productDB=win&mode=Quick&OS_Filter=Windows&search=VCD&x=0&y=0 You all should know about versiontracker.com, its the greatest software site in the world! You can find something for everything there and most of its free! You only have to login to write reviews on stuff, its almost all non-comercial so your not helping "the man" just your fellow user that has made an app on his own and wants to share it. I've never come across a viral app or anything there.

IF you have Kazaa the best program to use to create dvd with a dvd burner is Ahead Nero it allows u to create anything from music cd's to video.

Hmm, I have that, and I have a DVD burner. How many eps do you think I could fit onto one DVD, say if they were 200MB each?
-- Anonymous, May 03, 2003
Dont worry about filesize, because after you encode it in mpg for VCD's, the sizes all end up being about 200 mbs for a 20 minute episode, so instead, worry about length, because you can only fit 80 minutes on a standard CD-R (because thats what you use)

Remember, thats for a VCd though, so you'll just have to experiment for burning a DVD, but it would probably be more.
