Our beloved leader Rev. Fisher is home with Christ and we will never forget him or his wonderful work! I never had the opportunity to meet this wonderful man of God, though he did email me. For those that had the opportunity to meet Rev. Fisher or heard him preach please share with us your time with him. I tried several times this week to call his wife sister Jan and their voice mail picks up, it is a joy to hear his voice and hear him say "thanks for calling ame today" part of the healing process for those that are left behind is to talk about the person God has called home. Please if you feeel comfortable share with us your rememberance of Rev. Fisher. I am also praying for our ame-today family for your comfort, for your healing for the peace of God that passes all understanding. You are not alone for your savior is with you. I love you all!!

I had the privilege of speaking with Rev. John during the Convo in Orlando. He appeared to be deep in thought with a serious expression upon his face. I spoke with him and told him it was nice to speak to him without the use of a "mouse and keyboard." Whether via the net or face to face, it was always easy to speak with Rev. John. He will be missed!

Oh what a blessing! Yes, I was privileged to meet Rev. Fisher during the 2000 General Conference. Early on, when I first read his meditations, a lady responded to him about the "Sunday School Picnic" that he had written about. She made mention of the place where her church had held the picnics, and I told him that I was from that area of PA. He connected the two of us via e-mail and we exchanged information about her family and mine, that we both knew. She even gave me information about the my family and their AME connections. He asked if I would be attending the General Conference. I assured him that I would be there, as I was working on the committee for one of the candidates for Bishop, and could be found at the candidate's booth. When I saw this man with the wide smile and the beautiful white hair, approach the booth, I knew it was Rev. Fisher! It was such a wonderful occasion. I truly thank God for the opportunity to meet such a fine human being. He was truly remarkable and when I think of all the lives he touched, tears comes into my eyes, but I know that "joy cometh in the morning." Thank you for being an anchor in this cyber-sea of words Rev. Fisher. Rest well, my Brother.

Helllo my Internet Church Family,

I have never spoken to Rev. Fisher vis a vis but I remember about two years when I began looking for a united black church because at age 40 I had become frustrated over the inertia of our people towards uplift. I searched the internet and learned about the AME church and finally stumbled across this website. At long last, I had finally found a christian web site where people were civil towards one another. Previously, I had visited a Christian web site on Blackvoices.com called the " Upper Room". Those individuals in that " Upper Room" called one another all kinds of names and quite frankly routinely " cut up " one another. It reminded me of those old fashion baptist church meetings I attended as a child.

Upon coming to this site, I received a warm welcome to the AME church by Rev. Fisher and because of his industry in this site, I learned a great deal about the AME church. I pray that this site will continue as a living legacy to Rev. Fisher. I was just thinking as the technology gets better, one day we may be able to develop this site so much that we can have real time audiovisual interviews of some of favorite contributors like Professor Dickens, Rev. Alton Paris, Rev. Denise Rogers, Brother Nalton Brangman, Bro. Jeryl, Bro. Robert Matthews, Bro. Dr. Larry Coleman, Bro. Dr. Leonard Santucci, Rev. Sharon Stocker, Sister Linda Watkins, Sister Carmen, and so many more that I can't recall at this time. I pray that Rev. Fisher's journalism efforts will live on through this site.

I did have the pleasure of meeting Rev. Fisher approximately 3 years ago at annual conference. I spoke to him of AME-Today, and how much I enjoyed the site.

For those of you have met Rev. Fisher, you remember that beautiful head of white hair, and he was always distinguishable in the crowd because of his towering height. Each year at conference, his accomplishments for this web site were acknowledged. He will truly be missed this year.

I first met Rev. Fisher while I was in New England. My mother went to a retreat with his wife, Jan, found out that she was AME, and got Rev. Fisher's email. I began conversing with him in 1998. When I was moved to the Philadelphia Conference, I found myself in the same Presiding Elder District as he. We became fast friends. I even had the priviledge of helping in the reporting of the last General Conference. I have had Rev. Fisher preach a revival at my church, and have preached at his.

Today was his homegoing service. We all are going to miss him very much.

Though I've only posted a few times, it was 7 or 8 years ago that I first stumbled upon the AME Today website- before it was this elaborate. After moving to Charleston, SC I got to meet Rev. John when he came to preach at my church, Morris Brown AME in August 2000. While I don't remember his sermon text, I do remember that he broke out with a soul-stirring rendition of "Somebody Prayed For Me". We exchanged some emails a few times after that, and I recall talking with him over the net as he was experimenting with the voice-chat feature for this site.

I'm happy to see that this board will likely continue.

No I never met Rev. Fisher, but I am so thankful that the Lord saw fit to put his work into my midst. We have been blessed with a spiritual outreach that allows us to debate the pertinent issues of the church and our world with a Christian perspective in general and with an AME perspective in particular.

To Sis. Fisher and the family of the late Pastor John, may God continue to give you comfort and support. To God be the glory now and always. AMEN.

I've been away from the Board for a little while. I'm stunned and saddened to learn of the passing of Pastor John. We were class mates together in the Philadelphia Conference Institute some years ago. A fine Christian man. Excellent preacher. Community builder. I remember when we were in the Institute, the then Rev. Richard Norris who was the Chairman of the Board of Examiners asked who wants to preach today. As the rest of us coward and feigned coughing problems, our brother raised his hand with boldness and went on to share the Word of the Lord with intellectual precision and spiritual ferver. He will be greatly missed. Thankfully, we'll see him again. To Sis. Fisher and his family you have my deepest sympathies and prayer.
