Whatever problems there might be answering this question, Freud is almost certainly *not* the answer. Even if Freud is to be considered a psychologist (which is an issue with some who think that psychoanalysis is a different discipline altogether), he comes to the game far too late to be the "father," having his first major publication in 1900.Weber, Fechner, Helmholtz, Wundt, James, Ebbinghaus, Brentano (from whom Freud took courses), Charcot (with whom Freud studied), Hall, Cattell, Witmer, Baldwin, Jastrow, and a gang of others all predate Freud.

And if you read a more historically oriented history of psychology textbook, Aristotle is often the person suggested.

wilhelm wundt may be considered since he was the one who founded psychology as an academic discipline. if aristotle would be credited for the philosophical framework of psychology, why not look at the pioneer of such discipline which also carried psychology in their philosophical principles --- socrates.

Aristotle's claim is considerably stronger that Socrates' because the former wrote a book on the topic (De Anima) whereas Socrates wrote nothing at all, to the best of our knowledge. His student and Aristotle's teacher, Plato, wrote many books, but none on the psyche, per se (though see Republic, esp. the latter half of Book IV).
