you don't need it . all you need is a laptop with min 300mhz processor,64meg win95, 98 ,XP. use a registered version of hyper terminal if using it for your company, which can be found on windows ,and a serial modem convertor from RS conponents I've forgot the part number, I will let you know soon

the rs component is k422 for rs232 connection to rs422 connectiion hope this info helps you along with the last response

YES IT'S THE RS232 TO 422 DB9 DATA CONVERTOR

the RS part number in England is 400-1316 patton model1009/1009s ultra minature asynchronous db9 short range modem. the only problem is with Gen 2, but we are working on it

RE: Otis Service Tool Emulator

Or you could use RS:Part #400-1142 =RS232 - 422 interface converter = Patton 222N9f Then again if you opened them both up, you will see its the same item with two different names & order codes. GEN_2 Can be sorted, the PC uses only the 422 data lines on Pins 3,4,7,8,& GND on pins 5 or 9. The service tool takes two 5 volt supplies from pins 1 & 6. Pin 2 is also VCC & must, like the service tool be left disconected. I don't think the problem of a long data lead on GEN_2 is the real issue. Its all a matter of finding the correct ESC/Control sequence to initiate communications. A new terminal emulator is required that emulates more closely to true VT100. TigerTerm V:8.1f may be the answer, but I need to finish the programming of the on screen buttons. I have the buttons on screen & labeled as per the service tool, but i'm having some difficulty with sending the required character string. The programming interface language is not at all user friendly. We can just use the keyboard as per HyperAccess, but It's time I moved on with this project.

Gen2 Access with a laptop PC

Nice & easy does it every time! Gen2 access is now available, but don't use Hyperterminal or HyperAccess, they will not work correctly, though they may get you access, you will have trouble with the Motion Control Menu's.

It sounds like you are working on custom software. If so what language? I have been developing my own software for swift5000s and am doing a new project for a baxco. I am using visual basic. I would be interested in more details about the rs422 to rs232 requirements and what characters you need to send.

I am doing my own job, too in Visual Basic. Diagrams and other things. I am interesting in communications between PC and Elevator. Please contact-me who wants. I have a group on YahooGroups.
