I have an identical environment on two machines in Oracle 8.1.7. One is on HP/UX one on Sun Solaris. I have a query that causes an explain plan with the star transformation on one machine, but am unable to ge the other machine to produce such a plan. The star_transformation_enabled setting is true in both cases. What other parameters are relevant to getting this plan to be produced?
