Interesting NBC program tonite: Road to Baghdad

Tom Brokaw covered many more facets of the current situation than are generally covered on these discussion boards. For example, very few of the anti offensive supporters recognize the many Iraqi dissidents from southern Iraq who fought against the regime in 91. Many of these freedom fighters had to seek refuge here in the U.S. to avoid being murdered. These exiles are in support of the offensive and many are joining the military to contribute to the installation of a democratic government in their homeland. Just an interesting aspect to consider when questioning "What has Iraq done to warrent this action?".

I wasn't at home last night so I can't comment on the specifics of this particular show. But aren't there several other groups besides Iraqi dissidents which have come to the US for protection after failed attempts to overthrow the government? The Cubans especially come to mind. So why haven't we had a rerun of the Bay of Pigs every decade or so until Castro is overthrown?

When Castro is held as responsible for sponsering terrorism on American soil, we might see a rerun of the Bay of Pigs. If he had been found to be the sponser for 9/11, U.S. would have gone there, just like Afghanistan.

Some (most?) of us see U.S. acting like a bully, picking / choosing who they will fight. Why Iraqi action and not N. Korea for example. My opinion is Bush is making a very important point to the rest of the world.

ANYONE who sponsers / harbors / encourages terrorists should consider themselves a possible target for U.S. reprissals. You want to do it; your choice. Last administration just sent 'smart bombs' (take that, you bad ol' puddytats)or air sorties (sp?), but Bush is going further.

Why won't Bush strike N. Korea? I think because everyone knows they are posturing for freebies. N. Korea (I hope), knows if they decide to launch, they might as well kiss their butt goodbye - 'cause the U.S. will certainly push 'reply' - whether tactical or nuclear, N. Korea is going DOWN. Just my .02.

Big big problem with someone who has a nuke! If N. Korea has a couple it would be real easy to lob em into the south! Maybe even into Japan. I think the plan is to hope China and Russia help handle that area.

I think your right J.R. in that korea is the real HOT spot. Iraq should fold fast. I just hope 100,000 civilians don't get killed!...Kirk
