I will confess I am a historian though my specialty is the early church and the contributions to it from Africans. There was some talk on the board about non-denominational churches vs. traditional churches. I want to share with you the history of slaves and the black church from 1440 to 1866. Today in 2003 we are building upon the foundation that was started for us. It was through faith and hard work that our brothers and sisters labored for us. IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW BLACK CHURCH HISTORY BECAUSE GOD IS BRINGING ALL BLACK CHURCHES AND BLACK PREACHERS TOGETHER AS ONE IN CHRIST. THIS BEING THE CASE, ALL BLACK RELIGIOUS GROUPS MAKE UP THE BLACK CHURCH AND AS A PASTOR AND SCHOLAR, I MUST SAY THAT IT IT REFRESHING TO ME TO SEE GOD BRING BLACK PREACHERS AND CHURCHES TOGETHER. I HAVE BEEN IN THE MINISTRY FOR THE PAST 17 YEARS AND THE MORE WE STUDY THE BLACK CHURCH THE MORE GOD IS GOING TO MOVE AND UNIFY US AS ONE BODY IN CHRIST. THANK YOU.

Apostle Philip it is good to hear your rsponse to the question. The history of the Black Church is important and I agree with you that I do believe there is a stronger unity among all black churches in terms of working together. As I previously stated about my specialty is the early church and the contributions of Africans to the early church. One of our greatest church fathers was TERTULIAN who was African, it was he who came up with name and concept of the Trinity, he as a theologian was able to articulate the father, son and holy spirit into a theological concept for the entire church. Dr. Columbus welcome to the board and thank you for sharing about your college. I am a member of the International association of Egyptologists and I am the only clergyperson from the U.S in the association. So I am proud that the A.M.E. Church is represented.
