Oklahoma interstate speed limits

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Oklahoma highways : One Thread

I was curious as to why the speed limits on the turnpikes in Oklahoma are 75, and the main interstate highways only have a 70 mph limit. I was under the impression that the Governor,a year or two ago, had signed legislation creating the 75 mph limit for all interstates in the state and not just for turnpikes.Any idea if 75 will be legal on those roads? I have traveled on the main interstates in Oklahoma and think 75 would more realistically be what people are traveling. Several states have 75 limits (except for Kansas which should go back to 75 which it once had.)

Damn straight! Speed limits SHOULD go up to 75 on all interstate highways, p.s. Go Sooners! Eric Bischoff, rot in hell!

Hell no! Oklahoma's interstates should remain at 70 mph, if it were to go up to 75, it wouldn't be fair. I live in Texas, in Texas, we have a night speed limit posted at 65 mph. (Texas 70 mph day/ night 65 ) Oklahoma should be damn lucky they don't have a night speed limit posted to begin with, they already have a 70 mph limit day or night. In Texas, you get a ticket if you go over 65 at night.

I agree with Paul. Screw OKLAHOMA!

The Speed Limit should go to 100MPH

before December 1995, Texas was the only state in the USA with a 55 mph night posted speed limit on interstates, that was crap! everywhere else it was 65 mph day and night for cars.

no way! 70 mph on interstate freeways is fast enough!

-- Eric Stuve (www.bookert@aol.com), January 18, 2004.

no god dang way! 70 is fast enough for Oklahoma, and 75 on the turnpikes? come on! here in Arkansas it's only 65 for trucks. At least in OK it's 70 for all vehicles, so quit bitching ! Albert Leding- Altus, AR

Texans can't see at night, that's why the speed limit for TEXAN Red Necks is lower.

I was first time travel on 75 MPH on TOLLS highway I-44 foward to Oklahoma City, While I driving make me fully comfortable and satisfacted, Why? Because It's may save my time to get there and save gas for my increase time to get there. It's so cool!! Last time I surprised that Oklahoma State Trooper vehicle completely passed while I was on 82 MPH with curise control. I am very lucky person while I was on I-44 in Oklahoma State at that time. LOL I just no wondering why State Police went over 100 MPH then passed me on all way during the I-44 interstate highway. ummm How was that sound recreating on the I-44 Oklahoma State? also hope you will be nicer safety and drive carefully on that all way. Hope you have a nicer safe travel and enjoy! John

Of Course Oklahoma State in U.S.A. could be rise to 75 MPH because there's more comfortable and save gasoline than slow because it's waste gas for a while since Gasoline price is UP to keep traffic faster to save gasoline than before. When the speed is slow then all vehicle's MOTOR may thristy gas too quickly. 75 MPH speed limited is the RIGHT one when Motor get less waste the gasoline and save your money to go! Know what I meaning about that? Just let's me know at anytime. Also there on I-44 (Tolls) in Oklahoma State, There's look like Autobahn Highway in Germany. heh heh heh...
