Trail jog/run in Lawrence on Friday (12/20) -- Late Night With (out?) Mookgreenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread |
Friday (12/20) is the annual Late Night With Mook (LNWM) trail run in Lawrence. LNWM is a very low-key trail run/jog along the river trails in Lawrence. We'll meet at the parking area at the end of 8th street. To get there from downtown Larwence: go north across the bridge over the river, turn east at Locust and go to N 8th Street, turn south and follow N 8th Street to the parking area near the river (on the south side of the levee).
We'll begin running right about 6 p.m.
Won't it be dark at 6 p.m.? Yes, it will. That's the idea. LNWM is a night run. Bring a flashlight or, better yet, a headlamp.
We'll jog easily for up to an hour (maybe a bit less, maybe a bit more). Then we'll head downtown for a bite to eat at Papa Keno's pizza.
This is an informal "fun run." It isn't a race.
If you plan to attend, I'd encourage you to put a note here on the OK forum so we know to expect you.

Mary and I plan to be there.

Looks like Mary won't make it. But, I'll be there and I'll bring Mary's headlamp so we've got one extra light.

OK, this will be my first LNWM run. Looking forward to it. Talked to Dick Neuburger earlier this week, he's interested in the run - hope he can make it. Will Prez Pete make it, too, or with finals over will he head out of town?

Forget this nonsense, the Official LNWM Webpage is where you'll find your information.

Will there even be a "slow" group this year? Traditionally, Mary has led the slow group at LNWM. However, she posted a blistering time of 21:55 on the SMP Test Loop yesterday to lower her PR by a huge margin (see RP for details). Many in the OK community feel that Mary is ready to hang with the big boys this year!

I'll be there. Slow group sounds swell to me.

I'll show up. I hear Gene has a turbo light this year. Stole it off someone's bicycle? Not sure of my speed. Still dealing with my nasty foot sprain from soccer season. I think I'm OK if I go straight forward, it's the side to side stuff that makes it dicey, so no soccer for me on the sandbar this year! Have to find my little headlamp, though. Not that I'll need it what with all the megawatt lights.

Sorry, I won't be able to make. Nancy and I have caught the World's Worst colds (probably from our granddaughters). And besides, Scott arrives Friday at 4:30 p.m.Have a great time without us!

I did attempt to go to LNWM. See, I ended up getting to the end of 8th St, near the concrete cylinders, around 5:55, parked on the gravel, and waited there until 6:10, but didn't see anyone. During that time, I walked up to what I now realize was the levee (I missed the part in the directions about going to the south of the levee), but I just saw the two gates saying authorized vehicles only, and what i thought was a small trail (I later realized it was the road).Anyway, I drove around N. Lawrence a little bit then, supposing that maybe I mized up 8th st with 6th st or 3rd st, and then returned to the 8th spot I was in before. Then I finally saw the dirt road to drive down to the real parking lot, followed it, and saw all of your cars. Unfortunately, it was 6:20 by then, so I wasn't suprised that everyone was already in the woods.
Not trusting myself to run around on unknown trails in the dark (especially in N. Lawrence, as I've noticed there is an abundance of angry dogs there), I returned home to eat frozen pizza and wrap Christmas presents. There's always next year.
