Last night I went to see Drumline. J. Anthony Brown (Tom Joyner Morning Show) directed the famous Morris Brown Marching Band. Who by the way just cut up. There something magical about the way our children express themselves. The language was fine (no cussin'), or sexual intercourse or nudity...just good ole entertainment.

I had the opportunity to see drumline on Saturday evening -- it was an excellent movie -- having matriculated at a "band-Loving school" and also working for a College band -- I was happy to see the soul that we have in music and in the variety of music and movement.

I also saw DRUMLINE this past Friday, and was literally blown away by its brilliance and its freshness: no violence, no death, no drugs, no sex, no racism, no profanity---nothing negative, that I recall. That made it somewhat idyllic, but so what! We need a respite.

This movie was jammin', though. Having matriculated at Howard U. (undergrad and law: '73/'76) I dare say that I have an abiding appreciation for the power, beauty, and majesty of black marching bands. I saw our band transform itself from the "Nifty Fifty" to the "Marching 100!" I also saw the likes of FAMU, Grambling, Alcorn, you name 'em. This movie put me right back on main campus, on the yard!

A word must also be said about them cheerleaders! Help me, Holy Ghost! If you miss this movie, you will truly miss a blessing!

Dr. Coleman pray us for us in Bozeman. Drumline is not scheduled to come to Bozeman because the corporate office feels that there are not enough black people in our town to make a profit. Praise God for the white kids who are calling the corporate office and demanding to see Drumline. They want to see it! They loved Barbershop so the latest word is it looks good that we will get it also.

I can understand Denise's perspective.I went to see Star Trek X: Attack of the Clones instead of Drumline on the opening night, and was glad I did: the Drumline show was sold out. And the corwd in its line was quite diverse, indeed: 40% white, 35% Hispanic, 35% black (roughly, of course :-)).

We did go back later. My oldest, a freshman at Prairie View A&M, thought the "Atlanta A&T" band was modeled on his school. No doubt manyof our HBCU alumni and alumnae will feel similar.

Agreed on all the qualities about the movie except the profanity: did we miss one or two mild word uses? Certainly nothing too excessive was engaged, though (except maybe the dancing at the party, which would certainly upset our Baptist friends :-)).

It was also interesting to see "comic actor" Orlando Jones play the role so straight. Interesting casting there. And now that Brenda has mentioned that the MB director was Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Anthony Brown, I wish I had played closer attention to his speaking part. Guess I'll have to do that when we buy the DVD.

Interestingly, my middle son was picking up the cadences in the movie by ear, came home and incorporated them in his workout the next day. :)

drumline was off tha chain morris brown just cut up in that movie.they should have tied up again in tha centerfield show but thats okay cauz they still showed out
