Due to the death of the Hon. Mr. David Allen, Government Member of Parliament (MP) and Minister of Tourism on September 26, 2002, I have accepted the invitation to seek to fill this vacant seat in our Parliament. As an appointed Senator, I am seeking to become an elected Member of Parliament on November 26, 2002. The election will take place at St. Paul AME Church Centenial Hall. I seek your prayer support as I respond to the invitation to provide this form of elected political leadership as I continue to move toward the elected and consecrated office of Bishop in our Zion for 2004.

Thank you for your words of encouragement and interest. I was appointed as an Opposition Senator for the United Bermuda Party on November 1, 2001. I am due to resign from this position, by next Thursday, as a part of the process of seeking a seat as a Member of Parliament (M.P.), this would be equal to a seat in Congress in the United States. I am seeking to fill a seat left vacant due to the death of the Late Mr. David Allen J.P., M.P.; this bi-election will be followed by a mendatory General Election which the Premier must call by November 2003. I would be required to seek re-election at that time. At present, based on the political climate in Bermuda, I believe I have something to contribute for the betterment of our community and church. My election and consecration as a Bishop in 2004 would require that I make necessary changes in my life for the greater good. I look forward to serving God and man as best I can until that time. Dear Senator Rev. Dr. Leonard Santucci,

Congratulations on your success in the political arena in Bermuda!!! I have never met you and I am new to the AME denomination so I don't know a lot about your contributions to this church. I would surmise that you are highly esteemed in Bermuda and also in the AME church.

I have this feeling that I am talking to a great man. However, I am not certain because I know so little about you. Sir, are you a great man? Do you have a vision or a list of short term and long term goals for moving the AME church upward and higher? Are you of the ranks as such great men as Richard Allen, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rev. Floyd Flake, Dr. Leon Sullivan, or Dr. Gardner C. Taylor? Are you the impetus that will make the AME denomination into the puissant institution that it should be in the lives of African-Americans? African-Americans are starving because of unwise leadership in our community. We need local and national leaders who can inspire and lead us to great potential. Dear Sir are you a great man?

Most great religious men were great because of the work they did on behalf of God. When we look at their lives we can see they are kingdom building. In the eyes of God all of us are great. It is our response to God that truly makes us great. So in all fairness to Dr. Santuccci, maybe that question should be posed to all who are running for office and we should ask ourselves the question. Maybe the question should be "How will I help God with kingdom building? And am I living up to my own greatness by proclaiming the good news?

Jazzman, thank you for your interest and the comparison to such great people as you have indicated. As much as I appreciate the question of greatness, it should not be one for me to answer. My challenge in life as always been "to be faithful to the God who called me." To this end, I have always worked to make a positive difference in our church. My efforts at making a difference have been carried out through pulpit ministry, community involvement, political involvement as well as the development of the AME Re- insurance Company. I believe that if we continue to try to give God our best, we will make a difference. As of Thursday, November 7, 2002, I am officially nominated as one of three candidates for the seat in Pembroke East Central, as a Member of Parliament. The election day is November 26, 2002.
