I am searching for information of antecendants and descendants of John David Smith who was living near Porter in Stanly County from 1800. He does not seem to be related to the Smiths of western Stanly County. His children were Mary Polly, John H. (my ancestor), Mathais, Christine, Laura, Caswell,Paul B. Simeon, and Nancy. I would love to share information with anyone else researching this line.

Answers

A David Smith is not listed in the Montgomery Co. NC 1820 census. Did he (David) move to Mecklenburg Co. NC where two of them appear in the 1820 census? And then return to Montgomery Co. for the 1830, 1840 & 1850 census times? David is listed next to Bryant Austn in 1840 and a James Smith was listed next to Bryant Austin in 1830.
