How much do we really know about the continent that is our ancestral home?greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
Recently our church had a guest speaker ftom Nukuru, Kenya. A wonderful pastor who oversees 17 churches, He also has an orphanage for children whose parents have died from Aids. Our church was greatly moved by Pastor Odek. But later I began to think about Kenya, for the life of me I did not know what part of Africa it is in! I could tell you where all the european countries are in a heartbeat. For I have visited most of them. I even know the names of most of their leaders. But I realized I know so little about the countries in Africa. I know so little about the A.M.E churches on the continent of Africa. I call Africa the motherland but I dont know the names to call my Mother. Several white churches in my town have sent their pastors to the Sudan, Ghana, and other African countries to preach and do missions. I am not ashamed to say "I need to learn" I want to learn. I am hoping some of you will joy me in this endeavor. First, there is very little news about Africa in our media. Does anyone have a web site with African news? 2.) If our churches in Africa have websites please list them with us on the board 3.) If you have traveled to Africa please share your experiences. I pray that we will learn more about the Motherland. Thanks for any ideas you may have.
