I go to a Presbyterian church when I'm at home (I'm in college), and really like it. I've felt the Holy Spirit there in the sense of love and peace. A friend of mine here goes to a charismatic church, and while that personally doesn't appeal to me, I never minded. The other night we were reading the Bible together, and he asked if he could pray in tounges (he asked me because he knew I didn't, and didn't want to freak me out). I said yes, and when he did, I felt really at peace--I guess that's the best way to describe it. I asked him about the "urgency" he said he had felt, and while he was describing it, it came over me. He asked if I was feeling it, and I said "no" because I was afraid. After he left, I prayed to God and read up on the gift of tounges (which, up until an hour ago I hadn't really believed in--only saw as an emotional experience at the most) as a private conversation with God, and the feeling in me kept going...like a fire in my belly or something. I wanted SO BADLY to speak in tounges to Him, but I really couldn't get my mind out of "the world" and into focus. What can I do? I'm praying for it, but I just can't get past that barrier.

Trust in God and do good. The following describes what God requires of us. Micah 6:8 No, O people, the LORD has already told you what is good, and this is what he requires: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Jesus said that all the Law is summarized in: "Love God, and love your neighbor as yourself."

Do that and don't worry about anything else including tongues.

Let me start by saying be encouraged and realized God's grace will be what will bring your out of the world and keep your focus. Continue to pray for his guidance. I'm not trying to scare you, but if you spend a little more time in his word, you will see we each have different spiritual gifts. At this time in your life perhaps, yours is not to speak in tongue; perhaps your gift is not a speaking gift it just might be a serving gift. If you would like to share some of your questions with me, I would be glad to share with you some of the information, that I have learned through reading it in his word. Don't stop attending church, but make sure your spirit is willing and able. I'm glad to see that you do believe in the gift of tongue, but it's much more to it. I hope that you were reading the book of Acts, to know how and when it was performed. Again, you may email me at your convenience. i have felt the same way you have felt....i wanted to speak in tounges sooo bad as well..i even had dreams of myself speaking in tounges and i'd wake up disappointed, and confused. i read everything on tounges and even tried to fast for it...but those are all tricks of the devil.you don't have to do anything for it but ask God for it, acknowledge it is a gift from God, ( you must be saved ) and thank him for it, then open your mouth and it will come.he that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. john 7 :38 read vs 39 too. do not get dissappointed....it will come if you ask him.

Remember Jesus said "ask and ye shall recieve,seek and ye shall find,knock and the door shall be opened.have faith and belive this scripture.Jesus said ask in my name and i shall give it to you.When you ask the God for this gift ask in Jesus' name and close up your prayer(s) in Jesus' name.I asked god to give me the gift of tounges and i asked in Jesus' name and I recived it.i received the gift just a few minuets after asking for the gift.another thing is you must have faith and belive in your heart that he will give it to you...remember God knows your heart.I belive this gift is for everyone because I dont think God wants satan to hear our prayers to Him.have faith in God and in the Holy Spirit and you will see that our God is an awesome God.

That is exactly what happened to me a couple of days ago!!!my friend,after class,felt that we would be babtised and asked me to pray with him.i did go with him. we went to my homeroom class. nobody was there because we had PE. everyone was outside already.so he started praying.his eyes were closed but i two girls walking in.they were muslim.i did not feel at confort. he started praying for me.i, however did not speak in tounges. mabey he thought that i didnt believe enough. he asked the Lord to have him babtized. the holy spirit did babtize him. he started talking in tounges. that was the first time i acually heard it. it was beautiful. other than being freeked out,i felt something i can't express. anyway,what amazed me more was that he caught the girl's attention.with curiosity...they came up, wantin to hear what he was saying.just as they came close enough to hear him(his eyes closed)he spoke in english again.ever since then , they have been drilling us with questions about christianity. anyway,i think that the reason why niether one of us cant speak in tounges is because it shouldn't be rushed. it should come natuarlly,we were afraid.Mabey God thinks we're not ready.he'll give you that gift when he thinks your ready for it. but if you really feel and think you're ready for it, Just ask God for it. He will give it to you because He loves you.just a matter of do you think you're ready?just believe.forget about anything else.forget what might people say.they shouldn't have anything to do with this.it's really just between you and the Lord.believe in God,in Jesus,in the spirit.There are no other route.it's just through him."i'm the way,i'm the truth,i'm the life". there are no other routes. -God Bless *~!Raneem!~*

I know just hoe you feel I love God and try to serve him with all my power within me .I have one great thing happen though. One nite I went to church on Sundat and our pastor ask us to get up and bless each other. So we did I went to a couple of people but stillhad a heavy heart.But the next person I went to started to pray for me and as I listen I open my heart and started to cry and all of a sudden I began to laugh like I never have in my whole life. all I could do is Laugh and thank God I remember some things but not all I fell to the floor I have never felt so much joy in my life. when my husband pick me up all I could was thank God like I never have before .Before I coul get to the bench I started again for the whole service I was drunk in joy praise God I have never felt anything so wonderful before. I too long to speak in tounges and the holy Ghost so I thnk the answer is to know your gifts from God and excepting them when he is ready for you to have them. God bless you

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The speaking in tongues as practiced in many churches today is nothing but another corruption of the Word of God. Do you honestly believe that the Word says that the tongues spoken at Pentacost was some babble that only God and a handful of persons could understand. That is not what the Scriptures says and no where is it implied, including in the 1 Corinthian references. Get serious! God will not be mocked! Read and rightly divide the Word of Truth else be counted among the adversary's who spews lies and deceptions.

I my self was fighting the fact that there was really a spiritual tounge. One day I was in church and a lady prayed for me and while she was praying for me she was speaking in tounges, I was astonished but at the same time full of Gods spirit. I couldn't do anything because the spirit took over. But I am only 14,and I went home and prayed in the "Name of Jesus"for tounges. I also read 1Corinthians 15. Although I have never spoke in toungs I believe he will give it to me.
