650MB HI-VAL CD-R WORKS FINE 700MB DOESN'T

Hi, I have been burining VCDs on hi-val 650MB CDs for quite some time. However, recently I purchased a package of hi-val 700MB CDs and they will not play in my DVD player. It doesn't recognize the disc. The disc are identical in every way other than the capacity. Thoughts?

All media is not identical. The 700 MB CD-Rs may use a different dye from the 650 MB CD-Rs you bought. Go to http://www.vcdhelp.com and see what the DVD player compatibility list says about your DVD player since you failed to tell us what model you have. I personally recommend NOT using cheap CD-Rs like Hi-Val as it's not really worth saving money if you have problems.

I have been using all kinds of brands of CDRs, most are 700 MB ones, 650 MB in the past. I burnt movies, Karaokes.. Don't see any major problems except: 1) JENSEN 16x from Circuit City -- I have to slower its speed for buring at 8x, otherwise, pictures were not visible. 2) CompUSA brand, 16x. Similar, had to lower the buring speed. Worse than that, I got 2 spindles of 50 pk, that have dramatic scratches throughout the whole spindles. Stay away!!
