The Lord's Prayer, Why do we pray the Lord's Prayer without saying at the end of prayer, In Jesus Name?
-- Anonymous, September 25, 2002
Ooooo, you asked a deep question! The Lord's serves as a model prayer for us to pray, however some christians have regard this prayer as "the prayer" to pray and because, it is assumed (by some, not all) when we pray at the opening of the prayer, "Our Father" that this brings in the whole specturm of the Godhead, but this not so. "Our Father" is a title, however the name of Jesus (who operates in the manifestation of all three) serves as the name who we should call on. (I know I am going to get everyone and their momma stir up on this discussion, I am not AME or Zion, I am Apostolic-Deliverance, okay :- ) Throughout the book of John, there are set examples of Jesus unveiling His divinity as God ("I and the Father are one", "If I abide in you and My word abides in you may ask the Father anything in My name and I shall give it unto you", "Let not your heart be troubled....if you beleive in God believe also in Me...") However in Acts 1:2 says "But you shall receive power after that Holy Ghost has come and you shall be my witness in Jerusalem and all of Judea and Samaria and unto the uttermost parts of the earth." Holy Ghost is another name for "the name that is above every name in heaven or earth" Jesus. In Acts 2:38, Peter baptized the new converts "Be ye baptized in the NAME of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and ye shall recieve the power of the Holy Ghost." Although in Matthew 28 Jesus, "to baptize in the NAME of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" and the manifestation of all three is Jesus. Throughout the Old Testament, it clearly seen that the Spirit of God took on different manifestations for the operation He needed to acomplish: Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Nissi, Jevhovah Rohi, etc. When the prophets spoke about the coming Lord, he was refered as Emmanuel, Prince of Peace, Son of Man, etc. however when Jesus appeared on the scene, His name says it all, no if's and's or butt's about it. When a saint operate in and under His name, we reconize Him as Lord and ruler, and our will is no longer the focus, but His will. Alot of people will reconize "God" and pray to him, however people sometimes have issues about Jesus, because I like I said before, when you take on His name and His seal, you must come under submission to His will. I work alot with those who have at one time been in the drug culture and they come to one of my 12 step classes that I facilite from time to time. They will say (because they have been in other 12 steps programs) to refer as God as their "higher power" or the "god of their choice". They would say it is "god" that has did this or that for them but when I challenge them with "Which god or God are you talking about?""The God of Jesus or the god of this world, which Satan" You ought to the see the responses I get, most of these people don't want to reconize Jesus because they will have to without question surrender their will to His will. See demons tremble at the name of Jesus, they don't tremble at the name of God, because they even know that the name of Jesus not only carriess submission but also carries the blood. Jesus is the manifestion of God and the Holy Ghost is spirit of Jesus working inside each of us. I didn't mean to say all that, however this is the reason we ought pray in Jesus name.

Because Jesus, himself gave us this prayer it already is in His name. I personally no longer accept it as simply a model because when the Apostles said "Lord teach us how to pray", his response was, "When you pray say..."This prayer contains every petition we know to ask for both ourselves and others and it contains all the adoration and praise we offer to God.
While it is not the only prayer I pray, it has become a part of my daily prayer. Unlike many people I know I never pray the prayer of Jabaz because the Lord spoke to me and said, "I gave that prayer to Jabaz because his mother named him "pain." Your mother named you Robert--'bright, shining fame'--The prayer I gave to you is the one in My name"
Therefore, "When you pray say.." So this I do several times a day and they results are awesome, indeed.

It is a model to pray. It's not that we have to say it like that, but to pattern our prayers after that manner. When we approach the throne of Grace, we should realize his Name is hollowed. I like to just begin praising him, and letting Him know that he is above above, there is None like Him. I let Him know I am praying to my God who sits High and is concerned about me. I am seeking those things that come from His kingdom. Knowing that when I seek him first and his righteousness all other things will be added to me.God will supply my daily bread. Everything I need. He teaches me not to be greeding. I take no thought in what I should eat, live, or wear, because my daily bread will be supplied.
I ask him to teach me to be a good steward over everything. Because if I am not careful I will be in debt.
I ask him to guide my footsteps, to order my steps. Help me not to fall into tempting situations, and if I do I am trusting in his deliverance.
I end just as I begin, give him glory and honor, because it all belongs to him.
I just say amen. You see I am blood bought redeemed of the Lord. I have a right to go boldly to the throne of the Almighty God. Jesus made it possible, by the shedding of his blood for me. I accepted his gift to me. My salvation came at a price above that of silver and gold. So I cherish it.
The true Lord's prayer is found in John 17. Jesus himself was praying. I praise God he was praying for you and me.

I did not answer the original question. In my opinion we don't have to end the prayer In Jesus Name, because we have prayed by authority. We have a seal, God knows them that are his. We come before his throne, not by our own righteousness, but the righteousness of Jesus Christ, covered in his blood. That's our seal and gives us the authority. In Christ, Carmen

To pray in the name of Jesus is to pray in accordance with His character and will. His name also describes His being, His possessions, His dominion and His authority. The familiar "In Jesus Name", while not wrong, has become a bit of a formality that many attach to all kinds of personal desires that have little to do with the real meaning of the name of Jesus. Is there any real Biblical reason for this appendage either in command, precept or Apostolic example?
