I'm off to Memphis, TNgreenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
I'll be in Memphis for the next three days participating in a conference on energy economics. I'm scheduled to have dinner at Isaac Hayes' restaraunt on Historic Beale Street tomorrow (Saturday). Looking forward to tasting Memphis BBQ. Who knows, since my haircut is a razor-sharp close "fade" and with my dark sun glasses I might be mistaken for Shaft himself. No doubt saints this Son of Allen is one bad mother................... :-) QED

I had a great time in Memphis!! I had a chance to visit the National Civil Rights Museum, dined at Isaac Hayes' restaraunt (wearing my shades, polo shirt and sportcoat), quiz conference participants about Biblical issues from Genesis to Revelations and catch many of the sights and sounds of Historic Beale Street. I attended St. James AME Sunday morning and the Church School Superintendent insisted that I speak to the audience after the lesson. So, since she asked I couldn't refuse the offer and I promptly talked for almost 15 minutes about encouraging our youth and fortifying our AME members with a passion for studying the Holy Writ. Oh, fyi, when I registered for the conference, an attendee, who happens to be a charming Memphis Belle, boldly asked me whether I was aware that my appeareance was strikingly similar to that of Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes!! As the fellas in the 'hood say, "Dogg/Playa, you good to go now" (LOL) It's a miracle I was able to make any substantive contributions to the presentors after THAT flirtatious greeting. QED
