I have been A.M.E for one year. Yahoo!!!!!! Praise God, I love being A.M.E before becoming A.M.E I felt like I was eating spam, but now I am having a banquet with the lord and my a.m.e family. (Please forgive me, Bill Dickens is going to read this post and I have to mention food, though knowing Bill he probably likes spam. Huh what is in spam made of?) Anyway I am still learning about our Bishops, could you share a little about your Bishop? Where is he/she living and traveling and maybe some of their iniatives. I am in the fifth district and my prelate is Bishop Bryant, he is a holy spirit, powerful force for God. Also if you have a favorite Bishop from our A.M.E history share that also. I love learning about our great denomination. Bill put that spam down and post a response, plus you just dropped barbeque sauce on your shirt. Does anyone have a bib for my baby brother Bill?;-)

My Bishop is Frank Cummings. He is a small man who carries a big stick. I have learned so much from him. When i was a child in the 11th and now a preacher in th 6th. I have known him for a minute. He tells every one to be sweet. He is very family oriented. He does not hide it. He is a good man. Someone you can look to for a mentor.

My Bishop needs no introduction. He is the Senior Bishop in our Zion. While we do not see "eye-to-eye" on all issues, we had a pleasant conversation during the Florida Annual Conference which concluded several weeks ago. I regret there was no NC-style BBQ for me to munch on during sessions. Oh, Denise, please remember that we in NC do not use that spicy liquid to marinate our food. Plus, SPAM is not allowed in the Dickens House because it is "genetically-engineered" meat (LOL). But, then again, transplanted New Yorkers in the Rocky Mountain West have more important things on their mind like mastering the technique of fishing without a net or fishing pole, wrestling wild game to submission before capture and enduring hibernation for 8 months of the year due to snow blizzards. Ahhh...... the wide open Rockies :-) QED

Brother Bill you make me laugh!! But you left out something very important those of us in the Rocky Mountains have a fabulous prelate Bishop John Bryant!! And in terms of hibernation. We do not do that in my town, I live in a ski resort town in the rocky mountains, so we get tourists all year round. There is some sadness in the upcoming weeks that all of us as clergy must deal with. Hunting season starts soon, actually bow hunting has already started. I am down to my last package of elk, so I am quite excited about hunting season. But when hunting season starts we do not see the men on sunday mornings for church they are hunting, my director of men's ministry is quite creative and we are working on special programs during hunting season. I am amazed how well Bishop Bryant has gotten to know his territory, he has been to all 14 of his states for visits outside of annual conference and has even visited Montana and Alaska in the winter!! So brother Bill I am not ashamed to say, I love my wild game, elk, antelope, buffalo, white tail deer, and I love my rainbow trout. I do not go hunting, though I do know how to use a rifle, my adopted brother owns a hunting store and taught me how to use a rifle, in case I want to go hunting. But when I realized I could break a nail dragging a carcass down the side of a mountain. I said no, way, plus the camaflauge outfit with the bright orange vest. I don't think so. Yes I am a country preacher but I have the heart of a New York City woman. My friends bring me game meat so I do not have to hunt. We are hoping the Bishop will allow us to take him and Dr. Cee to Yellowstone National Park, for the park is in the fifth district. Bill when Jerryl responded to my post regarding Spam, there was a certain reverence. Do you think Jerryl eats spam?

I, too am a 6th district member, where Bishop Cummings is the presiding Prelate. He is so down to earth, really aobut doing God's business. I like the fact that at conferences he is not about showcasing, but about the church' business.
