By simply not being the false legend that commonly circulates. He had his moments of great distress caused by tragedies. Always recovered and took up writing lucidly and analytically. Did not believe much in the supernatural as seen in the rare usage of overt manifestations in his wildest tales. Used his feelings and was self critical. Read a good biography or better yet a good selection of the gamut of his writings.
