Church School Adult Lesson for Sept. 8, 2002greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
The Quarterly Lesson for Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002 is entitled God Restores A Sinner. It focuses on the "remarkable" life of King Manasseh (2 Chronicles 33:1-13 & @ Kings 21). This is an absolute must-read for those who seek a mature theological understanding about how God confronts sinful humanity, responds to sincere repentance and dispenses divine redemption. I am once again profoundly thankful about a learning opportunity to know more about His Grace. To borrow an expression from St. Paul, "I beesech you" to carefully study this lesson!! QED

Brotha Bill,It's like so funny that you would mention this story concerning restoration, my church, we also studied this in our morning bible class as well. I really enjoyed it. Not to sound stupid....but...I noticed at the end of your statements you close it with "QED" what does that mean???

The Church School lessons are the same because several denominations use the same "lectionary", or plan, for the church school. I don't know the source, but I have observed when sharing with friends in the past that we and COGIC were on the same lesson every week."QED" is a latin abbreviation for "Quod Erat Demonstrabatur," which translates to "That which was to be demonstrated." It typically occurred at the end of a mathematical proof, and extended to other proofs as well.

This lesson says a lot about the grace of God. It's amazing how I hear people say there was no grace shown in the Old Testament. But truly with godly sorrow one can find forgiveness. One of the things I found so amazing about this lesson is God dealt with Manasseh individually. He was taken captive by the Assyrians alone, and brought back. He didn't have just a dying man's confession because when he returned to Jerusalem he determined to be in a good relationship with God, by reinstituting true worship to the one true and living God, and tearing down all the idols he had allowed to be placed in God's house.
He a young man (12 yrs of age) when he became king. Although he had a godly father Hazekiah, it's obvious there were other influences to cause him to act in a way that was more ungodly than those that once lived in the land. But his repentance is another proof of the scripture that tells us to rain up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
If you got children out there that seems like there living everyway but right, don't give up on them...God certainly has not. He's able to bring them back.
In Christ, Carmen
