How many candidates (for Episcopal Honors) have declared from the 2nd Episcopal Districtgreenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
With the highest rate of growth in the connection and the list of outstanding servants under the direction of Bishop Anderson, are there any delcared candidates thus far?

There are persons throwing their hats into the ring from the Second District. First, there is General Officer Ricky Spain, a product of the Second District. Second, the Rev. Larry S. Hinton from the Virgina Annual Conference has announced his candidacy. More announcements may be forthcoming from the area of Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

I may be mistaken but I believe that Rev. Hinton pastors one of our churchs in the Virgina Beach Area...I am not sure which. As for General Officer Spain, if not elected as a Bishop, then I believe he will be afforded an opportunity to return the Pulpit (similar to the Rev. Y.B. Bruce who ran as a General Officer and lost).

Rev. Larry Hinton is the pastor of St. John in Norfolk, Virginia and the Vice president of the Connectional Council. Rev. Ricky Spain is a general officer and an associate minister at Allen in Washington. They are the only candidates from the 2nd at this time.Of course, Rodger Hall Reed is a part of the 2nd so he many announce. His wife is running for Connectional WMS President.

I think Rev.Spain has a good chance of becoming a Bishop in our Zion. To comment on the "if he loses"statment. If he loses most likely he will go back to the pulpit or in the case of Rev.Y.B.Bruce he came back and they made him a presiding elder. Thats not to far fetched. Infact I doubt they would put him back into a pulpit considering his status. There will have to be to much shifting in order to place him. so a presiding elder seems more realistic. Also we have to look at how many general officers are running. How many is there? Is it 2 or 3?

It is rumored that at least 4 are running. Dr. Champion has declared, and apparently Rev. Spain as well. The rumors imply Dr. Hill (Christian Education) and Dr. Dickerson (Research and Scholarship) will also be candidates.I am working to get confirmation of the latter two.

Brother McBride has tickled my interest again, so for those interested I am reposting the link to the Candidates' List. This is a dynamic list, and doesn't yet reflect all the people mentioned in this very thread (I haven't made time to update it yet).If you hear of other candidates, I will be trying to keep up. :-)
As for the number of slots, wouldn't it be seven only if we retain the Ecumenical Slot? There has been talk in the past of doing away with that one. Right now, the scheduled vacancies are in 1, 2, 6, 7, 11, and 13.

that last spot are knowned for the trouble spot. just incase somethign happens or somebody mess up. or there's a bad situation might not even be that bishop's fault what do you do then. you have that next slot. and then God forbid another bishop dies. you have a fill in already. instead og holding another election. that spot is small but in some ways very much needed.i just can't wait to find out.
